transfer GPA

Hey guys,

I was wondering when one applies for a transfer to the UC's, do they only consider your GPA for the classes pertaining to your intended major (i.e. prerequisites) or do they look at your cumulative GPA. I know someone who is applying from UCI, and they changed majors from Bio Engineering to Philosophy/religious studies; and their GPA in the school of humanities is 3.9 but their cumulative GPA is 3.5-3.6 due to the hard courses in Bio.

If he or she were to apply to UCLA's L&S with Philosophy/study of religion as the intended major, what GPA do they consider? The 3.5 cumulative, the 3.9 in humanities, or only the classes fulfilling prerequisites?

Most likely they figure in both the overall GPA and the GPA in the major...I am sure Berkeley does this at least...

whatabout for CCC transfers? do they look at major prereq GPA vs overall GPA?

They look at the overall GPA for all the UC-transferrable courses.
However, they'll put more weight on the grades you earned for the pre-reqs.
So even if you have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, if your GPA for the pre-req courses was a 3.2, you won't be looked too favorably upon..
