Transfer/Grad School Requirements

Hey,

So I am not quite sure what I am doing just yet. I graduated last May with a degree in Business from RPI (3.6 Major GPA and 2.8 Cum GPA). The only reason my GPA is low is due to family problems during my first year and a half while I was doing dual major CSI/Computer Engineering. I ended up switching majors and graduating early. My SAT was very high in hs (1500/1600 and 3.4 GPA). Anyway I was thinking of transferring to another school to get a degree in either IT or finance. What chances do you all think I have at getting in at a good university/grad program?

Since you already have an UG degree, you won’t be transferring, that term only applies to people who are changing schools while getting their BA/BS.

You will either be applying for a second UG degree, which some schools permit and others don’t, or for a grad degree. Unless you UG major is in a very different field from what you want to go into for grad school, you usually don’t have to go back for a second UG degree, but instead go straight on for a grad degree.

For grad school, your SAT won’t matter at all, rather you need to take the GRE or other standardized test for your field.

for grad school, a cumulative GPA of 2.8 is really low, despite your in major GPA being really high. some grad program even have GPA minimums of 3.0 for their candidates. and yes, you will have to take the GRE.

I think that I could still transfer, I forgot to add in the original post that went back to the same school I graduated from and got switched majors to IT this fall. I ended up dropping all of the courses due to other circumstances, but as it stands right now I am still almost completed an IT undergrad degree. Could I just transfer to another school with some of the credits that were good as an IT major, and leave behind the bad courses from my first year?

Whenever you apply to a new school they require that you send past transcripts. Your RPI transcript will show all of the courses you took there.
