Hey everyone, I am currently a freshman at UCLA, majoring in mechanical engineering. I'm thinking about transferring to another college because I don't think a big school like UCLA fits me very well. Since UCLA is running on the quarter system, I am wondering if grades from both the fall quarter and the winter quarter (which ends in mid-March) will be considered. Also, at the time of application, will my cumulative GPA be computed from two quarters?

If you submit your application before winter qt is over, you should try to send an official transcript ASAP once winter grades are on it. Adcoms are busy with fr admissions until the end of March and then turn to transfers, with decisions often coming out in May. So there’s a good chance that colleges will consider your winter grades as well.

I’ve emailed a few colleges and they told me that they would consider winter grades. My fall quarter GPA is something like a 3.6 (not so great I know) so I wish my winter grades can boost up my cumulative GPA. That’s why I was worried.

@entomom Thanks for the reply!

@stephenfuuuuu, just curious because I’m also applying to transfer out of UCLA, where are you considering transferring to?

@TheEarlyBird Im still deciding. Probably some LACs.

If you are still planning for engineering you might wish to consider the small [Association of Independent Technological Universities: AITU](http://theaitu.org) schools as well as LACs. Many LACs don’t have engineering.

3.6 is really good, especially at UCLA. I Know tons of people (and me) that would do anything to be in your situation! So don’t get down on yourself

@xraymancs I’m actually deciding right now. I might do pre-med, but Engineering is still one of the choices.

@TransferGopher I don’t know lol, after seeing so many posts from people getting 3.8+'s on College Confidential.

My HS GPA was a 4.12/4.3. Do you guys think this helps?

A 3.6 is fine.

bummmmmmmmmmp
