Transfer Help & Guidance

Hey everyone!

I currently attend Orange Coast College, and I have had a lot of trouble with the counselors that I have talked to for helping me plan or assist my road trip to transfer to a UC from CC, for some odd reason i receive a different plan through every single counselor i have ever talked to ( 3 counselors ).

I am currently enrolled semester i will have finished my 2nd year of CC. After the completion of this semester i'd have completed 36 units towards my GE with a GPA of 3.0. My goal is to transfer to a UC like UCSD, UCI, etc. and i am a Biology major. I am working towards becoming a surgeon.

My question to the community was if anyone can give me a insight to how i can transfer to UCI from OCC. According to Assist.org :

"All applicants must complete the following with a grade of C or better in each
required course:
- one year of biology courses equivalent to UCI's BIO SCI 93 & BIO SCI 94,
- one year of general chemistry with laboratory, and
- one year of organic chemistry with laboratory
"

Do i aim to finish those requirements and my IGETC before i apply to UCI?
Is there another way to transfer out of CC to UC quicker? easier? faster?

I do not mind staying in CC for another 2 years if that will allow me to goto UCI for a few semesters and graduate. Also, i do not mind taking classes. I started off on the wrong foot in college that's why my GPA fell to 3.0 but i am trying my hardest to get it up.

As far as finishing the prereqs, you just need to have them done before you transfer. When you apply, you state that they will be in progress the semester before you transfer (Spring).

I’m speaking in respect to ucla (similar to irvine)

If you had to prioritize classes between the core requirements and IGETC then prioritize on the core requirements.

The more requirements you have the better, usually o-chem takes forever to complete but if you at least take on o-chem class before transferring it would help.

So if you are looking into quickness focus on requirements, however if you really want to go to med school, ur GPA has to be superb, so if waiting an extra year means more units and higher GPA then u should wait. However it never hurts to apply this year. Worst case scenario you get rejected and can apply next year.

Thanks you guys! it really helps, yeah i am going to focus on getting my O chem and all my requirements done. I am definitely working on getting all A’s so i can boost my GPA. What is a decent or recommended GPA to transfer? I am aiming for the highest possible.
