Transfer Help (Schools listed)

I want to start off by saying this is NOT a chance thread. I'm not trying to make it one either. I'm a high school senior and was accepted into Northeastern, BU and University of Rhode Island for the college of engineering. Northeastern was my absolute 100% top choice, but financial aid was by no means good. I am now stuck with URI, and have been thinking about where I can try to transfer to. I'm also not sure if I'm going to stick with engineering, which is a good thing I guess because i can figure it out in time, therefore I'm going to apply to a variety of schools.

I'm going there for the first year, that's a fact, but I really want to transfer out. The schools I'm looking at right now are: Uchicago, Middlebury, Cornell, Colorado Springs(airforce), and Tulane. Namely I'm looking at schools that meet 100% of financial aid, the only way I could afford it.

These are my stats as of now:

Class Rank: 17/282 (top 6%)

GPA: 3.79
Honors(Ap courses): Every one has at least an A in it, and i have taken 5

SAT (Superscored): CR-540 (BLEH!)
M- 590
W-570
Cr + Math = 1130

ACT: Math: 29
Reading: 30
English: 21
Science: 20
Combined Eng/Writ: 23
Essay: 10
Composite: 25

Extracurriculars: I have over 10 that i have been committed to for four years, and i hold leadership positions in 6 of them.

Awards: English Award, Creative Writing Award...and perfect attendance (useless, i know XD)

I am a member of the National Honor Society, and have also completed over 60+ Community Service Hours

First-Gen College student

like i said before this is NOT a chance thread, I'm posting my stats so I can get ideas on what to improve.

That being said, could somebody help me figure out what to improve/how, as well as tips for the schools I listed, perhaps suggestions for schools?

Please help me out here!
Thanks!

Get a 4.0 first semester (if you can being an engineer) and you won’t have to worry about which school you should apply to. Apply to all!

What about my sat/act scores? Ive taken the sats 3 times, and the acts 2 times, do the college still look at them? How can I go about increasing my scores?

If you want to transfer as a soph, then your test scores will still be important because you will only have completed one qt/sem of college work when you apply. Check the school websites to make sure they accept scores for tests you take in college.

Did you prep before taking the tests? I prefer self study and can’t recommend a commercial class just because I’m not personally familiar with any of them. Have you checked out the Xiggi method on the SAT forum?

I dont think you can transfer to Air Force.

Transferring into Middlebury is essentially statistically impossible.

I finally found the post I was looking for. I was too harsh to say “impossible” at first, but it’s very improbable

From someone else on CC: "Yes, in 2008, 15 transfer students applied despite the fact that Middlebury made it clear that they weren’t accepting transfers. Here are some stats from previous years:

Fall 2007: 246 transfer applicants, 30 admitted, 14 enrolled
Fall 2006: 199 transfer applicants, 7 admitted, 4 enrolled
Fall 2005: 230 transfer applicants, 1 admitted, 0 enrolled
Fall 2004: 221 transfer applicants, 9 admitted, 3 enrolled "

To mom: no I haven’t checked that method yet, but I’ll definately check it out. I didn’t know some colleges don’t accept college scores… If so then I’m screwed!

To Christmas: it’s not really transferring, it’s basically applying, they can accept you until your 23 I believe.

To vern: middlebury was my last choice anyway, thanks for telling me that. Where do you get the stars from, google?

To anyone: what schools that meet 100% of aid and if income is less than a certain amount bumps the loans and give grants… Like uchcicago and tulane. Which of the “top” schools are easiest to transfer to?

Here’s a link to a summary of Xiggi’s method (since the thread is uber long):
