Transfer Help (UCLA - English Major)

My situation:

SMC student (will be moving down to fullerton cc(Orange county)
I have taken:

Fall (07):
English 1 B
Business 1 B
History 10 A

Winter (07)
Music 32 A

Spring (current/08):
English 2 B
Math 52 (stats) B
Econ 1 (micro) C
Psych 1 B
(GPA should be at 3.1)
(don't know if this is too much detail but needed help so yeah.)

main problem: I've been hesitant about what major i should do--skipped from business to psych, and now thinking about English.

The schools i want to go for are UCI & UCLA
Either for psych or English (most likely English)
So i was wondering if anyone knew the average GPA to get into UCLA for English. I'm applying during November and will try to bring my gpa back up. But anyone help me out? Also courses i need to take?

Also problem with GE's Do i still need to take the other GE's as other students, always though that English & Math majors just stick with English requirements... haha this is a bit confusing so if you can help me out thanks.

start planning for UCI

I'm a psych major @ fullerton college too. I can tell you that UCLA's GPA for psychs was 3.67 for Fall 08'. If you really want more information and how you can become a better candidate for admission, leave me a message.

avg GPA for english @ UCLA was 3.63. Unless you get like 2 A's during the summer, I'd just direct my schedule going towards fulfilling UCI english requirements.

Do the HTP for UCI.

yea i'm just looking through all your classes and you only have an A in History throughout your whole first year (wouldn't really count music). You should be a shoe in for UCI, wouldn't touch English if I were you, maybe Linguistics and English and do the UCLA TAP if you really really want to go to UCLA..

HTP?
I think i can pull of 2 A's during the summer. yeah friend got in with a 3.6, so thought it would be around there.

thanks for the help beardy and trebor. yeah just gotta start pulling out those A's. :|

UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2008

Average English Transfer admit - GPA of 3.63. (Average total units - 99).
Average Psych Transfer admit - GPA of 3.67 (Average total units - 100).

UCLA likes to see the IGETC completed or close to, and likes to see a lot of prereqs for the major completed. Your GPA seems very weak for UCLA right now.

Irvine is a better fit, but I read somewhere that their admit rates are getting more competitive and it is not as easy to get in recently. Also, I had a professor tell me that this year and next year will be some of the toughest years to try and transfer because 1) there are a LOT of students looking for spots 2) government money is tight for the UCs which leads to 3) shrinking admit classes.

I would definitely tell you to apply to 3+ safety schools, probably CSUs. I know someone at my CC that had a reasonably good GPA and didn't get into any of the colleges she applied to. She simply didn't have enough safeties as part of her plan.

Annika

I am an English major who got accepted by UCLA for Fall 2008 with a 3.66 gpa, plus TAP certification. I suggest you bring your GPA way up and complete all pre-reqs for the major, which is kinda a lot. Here is the assist.org link to the required classes you must take. Hope that helps. :)

Hi I’m planning to transfer to ucla in fall 2017(I’m a first year college student currently). I have a question about the major requirements for English majors. I saw that it said you needed 2 years of a foreign language required for the major. Would the IGETC requirement fulfill that(I completed 2 years of Spanish in highschool so I fulfill the IGETC language requirement but I’m not sure if it works for the major too). Someone please respond quickly ! Thanks for the help!!

Dead thread again buddy.
