Transfer Help

I just finished my sophomore year of school at the University of Maine but have some questions as I want to transfer. I was just put on academic suspension for a semester but have decided I would prefer to transfer rather than return next spring. My GPA, however, is considerably low (1.37 altogether). A big reason for my lack of effort has been no direction, until now. I have just discovered what I want to and where I want to go (Emerson) but realize I must attend CC to stand a chance in the future at getting in.

My questions have to do with the process of transferring I am to undertake.

1) Would a CC let me in despite my GPA?
2) Would my GPA carry over? Meaning, would I have to attend CC for almost 2 years to improve my GPA enough to get to an acceptable level (3.0) for Emerson?
3) Would my GPA at CC only be calculated by the credits that I transfer?
4) Would it be possible to just ignore my 2 years at UMaine and start fresh at CC? Thus meaning I could just attend CC for a year and then try to transfer to Emerson?
5) Does attending CC immediately this fall keep my grace period on paying student loans intact?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

1) You have to ask the admissions office at the CC. With that GPA you may be restricted in the number and/or type of classes you can enroll in. Or they may require that you take a full semester off before enrolling.

2) You need to ask Emerson what kind of improvement they will require of you.

3) That is another question to ask the CC.

4) For the rest of your life, whenever you are asked for copies of your college transcripts you will have to include the transcripts from UMaine. They are part of your academic history. The good news is that newer (and presumably better) grades will count more when your records are evaluated.

5) Talk with the financial aid office at your CC about this one.
