Hi all, I want to transfer schools starting next fall. I'm currently a junior at a state university studying computer science engineering. I'm trying to get into a better school but nothing crazy. I currently have a 3.59 gpa. My problem is this semester I'm doing terrible, I'm crossing my fingers that I'll pass my classes. I had health problems and a hospital stay early in the semester that just sent me to far down the hole. I've been trying to climb out ever since. Question is one of the schools I'm applying for transfer isn't extremely rigorous but I'm concerned that after they see these new semester grades they'll rethink a decision. Most of these classes this semester I will retake next semester and kill it, but I'll still have this lost semester. Question is if I'm going to do as bad as I think, should I contact the admissions officer and explain the semester?

If you’re doing that poorly and you have a valid reason (health issues) and are planning to retake the courses next semester, why not take Ws rather than have the low grades on your record?

Either way could be a problem for a transfer decision that will be made this spring, so yes, you should contact the Admissions office and ask what you can do in your situation.
