Hey I'm a freshman at Georgetown U and I'm considering looking into transferring next year. I really don't know much about transfer admissions so I was wondering what my chances are at a couple schools.

I have pretty solid extra-currics I have a part time job, leadership positions, etc..
First semester I got a 3.61, I think I will probably do better second semester, so I'm aiming for around a 3.7 overall this year. I don't know if my high-school record really impacts any of this, but I had a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale at a very prestigious private school and my SATs were 1470 M+CR or 2180

I'm really not set on transferring, so I would really only apply to reach schools. Anyways heres the list and I appreciate any help/comments

As you will be transferring as a sophomore, your high school record will not be heavily weighted. Here are some ideas:

Try and get your GPA as high as you can get it. 3.7 is competitive, but the higher it is, the better.

Start cultivating relationships with your professors. Go to office hours and make a sincere effort to get to know a few of them whose classes you enjoy and whom you respect. Participate in class and really make your positive mark so you can plant the seeds for solid recommendations come next winter. This may seem particularly underhanded and dodgy, but it is perfectly fine so long as you are sincere and honest.

Consider a course schedule that includes mostly classes that will transfer over to other schools. Also, consider upper-level classes in which you can do well.

Start working on applications as soon as they become available (i.e. around August). You can even begin drafting template essays such as why you want to transfer and why each specific school will suit your emotional and intellectual needs.

The grass is always greener. Be true to yourself and assess your reasons for transfer, be it with a pro/con list or other means. If you are still unsure, fill out the applications anyway. You can always change your mind to not go, but you can never apply late.

thanks thats very helpful. I actually meant to say I'm considering applying for admission next year, so applying to transfer this year(come march) but your advice is all still applicable so thanks again

if you're seriously considering transferring this year, get moving. for one, brown's application is due on march 1 via snail mail.
