Transfer help?

I go to a small liberal arts college in Maryland. This is my first semester and I am miserable. I went to a great private high school that prepared me very well for college. I feel that the academics here to do not my previous education justice. I am not at all challenged in any of my classes, and my professors are incredibly uninspiring. The sociology program is one of their weaker programs, which is what I want to major in. Additionally, the student body is not very engaged or active in their campus life. The clubs are virtually inactive, and no one seems to be interested in what is going on around them.

So I am looking to transfer. I am so depressed all the time because I am neither intellectually stimulated, nor am I emotionally invested in anything. I want to transfer to a school in DC (American or GW preferably) because I want a more vibrant campus in a more urban environment where I can be challenged and work hard. I thought that being close to DC would allow me the same opportunities (internships, etc.) but I am very closed off in suburban Maryland.

The only problem is that I have a grant from my current school that is allowing me to attend now. I can't afford to transfer for next semester. My parents have offered me the following options:

1.) Come home for the spring semester, attend classes at UNC Charlotte and get a job to earn some money. I would then apply to transfer to American or GW in the fall.

2.) Stay at school during the spring semester and research/apply/visit schools in DC for the fall semester.

I am not worried about admissions right now, my high school stats were good and I am making great grades now. I like the idea of going home for my spring semester, mostly because my parents would not have to pay so much for me to stay at a school that I hate. My only concern is whether or not American or GW would still accept me if I left my current school for a semester? Would it even make a difference?

imho, if you can keep your gpa high, you should goto a local school instead of staying in your current school just because of the money. and I do not believe your current school’s diploma has much more value than UNC, especially in scociology.

I would vote for UNC next semaster, in addition, I would not attempt another transfer if you are happy there.
