transfer honors

is maryland college park's honors program good? i just got accepted to it, but the more i think about the crappier it looks. for one, they accepted me. my creds aren't very good. anyone know where it ranks? any other good honor programs at different schools?

Your college sux.

It's not even in top 50.
Transfer out of there as soon as possible.

ummm thx dhl

college park is somewhere past #60....it's a decent college.

its ranked 55 on us newsweek and 18th on the top public school list. it was ranked 30th in 1998 not its ranked 18th. were i am from thats called major improvement.

yeah well somewhere around there...either way, it's a decent college.

yeah but it's not good.

lol correct that's why i'm careful to only call it "decent."

While 30th to 18th is very impressive, it's got a ways to go before it's good. IMO, a good public school is one where a good # of intelligent OOS students are willing to pay the tuition to attend the university (i.e. UVA, UMich, Berkeley, UCLA, and so on).

lol ok dhl w/e your little foolish mind tells you. i visited college parks campus and its nothing teaching staff is nothing short of stellar. im majoring in economic and college park offers a top notch econ department, ranked in the top 20's. seriously if your basing how good a school is by that god damn us newsweek list im gonna have to call you, sorry to say, a ****en artard.

call me whatever you want.
But im going to stick to my opinion.
College Park is not good.

btw, us news week list is what ppl rely most on in comparing college rankings.
So by all means stop dissing US News list.
I bet you got the econ ranking of college park off from u.s. news week too.

lol perhaps it is only good to use US News when it supports one's argument?

OP: to answer your original question, getting into the honors program is impressive and you should make the most of it.

yea brad, good schools constitute oos attending that particular college. the problem is, most prospective students base thier judgments on the us newsweek rank. if maryland is moving up the rank, more oos will attend. and this fact is true. maryland is moving up that list, thats for sure. we are in great competition with east coast colleges like uva unc duke for federal grants. college park has made great strides to raise admission standards and the size of the campus.

EVERYONE 'Your college sux'

from what i understand, is coming from a COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENT....

no offense dhl3 but you nobody to talk. at least this guy got into college...

(dont bring me up bc i got into a school, and yes i am going to community college next year and i'm not ashamed)

i sure dont go around putting other people down when i'm in no place to talk.

ilovecalifornia.

People who go to cc have many reasons.
many people gets admitted to a four-year university (I got into Lehigh University) but still prefers to attend cc to save money, to find their interest, family problem, etc.

Don't assume all cc students are rejects.

While you are right about how not all CC students are "regects"... and that they choose to go to CC for other reasons besides that... the stats show otherwise. Most people that go to community college go because they did in fact not get into any 4 year university. (Again, I'm not saying you didnt, I also got into pretty decent 4 year schools, but choose to go to CCC). I'm just saying the majority of CC students really are "regects". There is a reason each CCC only transfers out 200-300 people on average to UC schools when there are 30,000 students in attendance. Those 200-300 people tend to not be the "regects" that chose CC the firstplace. Why do you think CC has the highest drop out rates out of any type of education? It's because the majority of students in CC really support the negative stereotype that CC students have. Stereotypes aren't completly true... however they are based on truth... and the stats support this.

Yea but he was assuming that I was a reject based on only one fact, that I go to a community college.

doens't Lehigh suck too?

Don't settle for anything short of spectacular.

"doens't Lehigh suck too?"

I dont know since i never attend tehre, but according to the U.S. News, it's ranked #32. So I'll call it a decent school.
