Hey everyone! I'm a freshman at DePaul University and I'm planning on applying to Northwestern as a transfer student. I'm already half-way done with the application process but the further I get the more discouraged I become. I hope someone can give me an honest feedback on my chances of being admitted. I'd really appreciate it.

Here are my stats:

ACT Composite: 28 (that's what worries me)
HS Rank: 10/453
HS GPA: 3.8 unweighted, 4.18 weighted
Current GPA: 3.825
HS Extra currical Activities and Awards: Newspaper Staff, Varsity Academic Team, Student Council, French Club, NHS, French NHS, Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar, Fern Award, Hellen St. John award, Presidential award, some external scholarships and community service
Depaul: DSCA Habitat for Humanity club
I can write some pretty amazing essays and get good recs from my HS counselor and college professors.
BTW I'm a female from Eastern European background with dual citizenship and am majoring in English. I don't know if that really matters...

I dont really know that much about transferring but i do know that you ranked high in a big hs class... it really depends on your college grades... if you can handle the rigors or university level classes NU should recognize that... maybe a little weak on the EC's...

overall i wouldn't loose sleep, you have decent shots... :]

you have to take admissions chances on these websites with a grain of salt since it's all just students talking from their own experiences, but given that i would say your transfer chances are 50/50 - you are right in the middle - your ACT score will hurt you a lot, and your GPA could be higher from depaul, but nonetheless your stats are good enough to get you in, it's a toss-up.

your essays and recs are going to be the deciding factor, i recommend putting lots of time into them.

I was accepted, just finished my first quarter; my GPA was a 3.5 at Purdue, definitely at the low end of the acceptance spectrum. I got in based on my ACT score and extracurriculars at Purdue.

You have a shot, your college ECs could be better, though.

Thank you all very much for the feedback. I will definitely work hard on my essays and try to get more ECs. I have one more question though... if I don't get accepted this year, should I apply again next year or just let it go? I mean, can I apply twice for transfer admission?

you can, and if you aren't accepted and northwestern is really where you want to go, improving your application (by bringing up your GPA/improving extra currics/whatever) PLUS showing great interest by applying twice could help your chances.

This is very anecdotal, but to me it seems that applying again really increases your chances. I don't know anyone who applied transfer twice, but I know a few guys (including myself) who were rejected for freshman admission but got in as transfers.
