Transfer/Housing Opportunities

I am currently enrolled in East Carolina University and am looking to transfer for the spring semester. First off, is it generally common for students to come in during the spring semester at Mason? I (before ECU) lived in Annandale, VA all my life and know many people that went/are going to Mason, yet, none that are transferring. I knew going into ECU that I probably wouldn't stay and now am trying to piece together next semester.

If I am accepted, I would like to live off campus but I'm not sure what options there are. I have tried to do some research but I don't know exactly where to look. My Dad wants to know if there anything done through the university for students living off central campus? Or rather, what would be convenient for a student going to Mason looking to live off campus?

Thanks!

I don't think it's a big deal to come in during the spring semester instead of the fall. Just make sure to send in your application by October 15 and get started on seeing what credits you can transfer over (since that can be a pain).

If you want to live off campus, there are a few websites with posts that you can browse through.

*George Mason University Off Campus Housing Service - register and log in, then search through the listings or you can read the message boards (students looking for other students to rent a room)

northern virginia all housing classifieds - craigslist - search keywords like 'gmu' or 'george mason' and you should be able to find something

Good luck!

Oh I forgot to answer your other question - What would be convenient for Mason students living off campus. There is a bus system (CUE) that runs through Fairfax that is free for GMU students (just show your school ID). So my suggestion would be to find a place near a CUE bus stop or w/in walking distance to the school. There are 4 lines (Gold 1, Gold 2, Green 1, and Green 2) and they all go to GMU and the Metro.

Here is a map: http://www.fairfaxva.gov/cueBus/CUEBusMap.pdf

CUE bus site schedule and info: http://www.fairfaxva.gov/cueBus/Routes_Schedules.asp

With parking as tight as it is at the moment, using the free bus would probably be a good idea. But if you use a car, my suggestion would be to just park in the Field House which is across the street from Mason and ride the free shuttle over.

Also, if you receive financial aid through FAFSA, you can use that money to cover for your housing costs.
