transfer housing options?

I was recently admitted to UCSB for fall 2012 and am considering getting an apartment with my boyfriend. Were both junior level transfers and would like to live on campus (San Rafael I think) but were weighing our options. I would like to live as close to campus as possible but were concerned about Isla Vista's party scene. Does anyone know of any good apartment complexes that are 5-10 minutes away by car? Thank you!

Just to clarify if we can’t get a res hall on campus-San Rafael or Manzanita-we want to find a non-university owned apartment in IV or Goleta.

Congrats! I’m in a similar position with the same worries about the IV party scene…I actually attended SBCC in the early 2000’s and lived on DP for a year …got it out of my system and don’t really want live in the heart of IV

My first year there, I lived in Goleta in the dorms that they termed “the F*** Towers” (use your imagination)…I recall that they had a mix of sbcc/ucsb kids as well as a couple levels for transfer students…I think I remember hearing that they discontinued this option.

I don’t really think you will escape the madness living in IV/Goleta…best advice is the further away you go from DP (Del playa - the main street everyone goes to party), the less crazy it will be. My gf and I are actually contemplating getting a place downtown near sbcc//State street…it is away from the IV madness and beautiful. It is a 10-15 min drive to ucsb campus but would def alleviate concerns of getting your house torn up living on a street like sabado or DP…Hope some of this helps…my info is definitely dated as I am 28 and lived in IV in 2003, so I bet some things have changed but I can’t imagine by a lot.
