I was just accepted for transfer to Vandy next fall and was wondering if transfers live with new freshmen, other transfers, or current students?

Also, for any transfers did you find it hard to make friends? I'm not really outgoing so I'm hoping that transfers are housed together to help ease into meeting people?

Thanks!

congrats on your offer of admission! there is a Vanderbilt upperclassman or woman who has posted in the last week that they will be involved with settling in the transfer students coming in 2014. I can’t find that post at the moment but it is recent. perhaps another transfer admission will find that post for you this weekend if you can’t locate it. It was in the transfer thread here.

Transfers do usually room with other transfers. It can be hard to make friends, because the freshman orientation and bonding that happens at Vandy is pretty intense. You have to work to meet people. There is a transfer orientation, but after a couple of days you’re on your own. There are people who will say it’s all easy and perfect, but the truth is, no matter where you transfer, it’s starting over in a new place where relationships have been formed. Your fellow transfers are your best bet, so make sure to meet as many of them as you can. Sometimes if they know existing students, then you can break in to other social groups. Joining clubs helps too. Be sure to go to the Club fair on Alumni lawn early in the semester and find things that interest you. If you want to go Greek, that’s a whole other thing. PM me if you want more info.

@newtocollege Thanks for the info! Pretty nervous for the fall, but being at Vandy I guess I can’t really complain haha. Anchor down!
