Transfer Housing.....There is none.

My son, OOS transfer, had been assured that "historically speaking", that first year transfers were right behind freshman in the housing lottery. Knowing that college administrators have a real hard time telling the truth, we called in early June to ask why my son hasn't been assigned housing yet. The answer, was that they hadn't worked on transfers yet, and if we didn't hear anything prior to transfer orientation, they would give us our housing assignment then. My wife and I paid the $40 a head to go to the orientation, and after listening to the jerk talk about his being really cool, hanging with Billy Joel, the next guy up said simply, that there was no transfer housing available. A collective gasp went up in the crowd, and everyone in our situation was in shock.

Why didn't they tell us earlier? Take a guess.

Many of us left the orientation, because we were from OOS, and now had to find off campus housing for our kids in about 24hrs. After a whirlwind tour of what was left of off-campus housing, we signed a lease at Stadium Suites. Its funny, that every complex we visited said that USC does this every year to transfer kids.

Needless to say, our first experience with USC was not a good one.

Can anyone tell us what life is like at Stadium Suites, or any other off campus housing for kids from OOS that don't know anyone?

I wonder if you jumped the gun…althopugh you probably felt you had no choice but to look for off campus housing at that point. They may “say” theres no on campus availability to pare down the waiting list. My son had a last minute placement of an out of town transfer student into his on campus apartment at the last minute during his sophomore year. All those off campus complexes are filled with USC students only…your son probably has as much chance of meeting people there as he does in an on campus dorm by the 2nd year when really the majority of on campus dorms house freshman and honors kids. Most of the kids only live on campus the first year, two at the max then move off campus.

TurtlePhobic: My daughter lived in Stadium Suites for two years…her sophomore and junior year. She really liked it and I always felt like she was very safe. It is mostly college students and it is a gated community. They have a pool and I believe a lot of the students get together in their spare time. In addition, it is very close to the stadium, hence Stadium Suites, and when we visited her during football season, we walked to the stadium.

I do believe it is very much like living in a dorm and the students there meet a lot of other students.

Hope this helps!

It does help, thanks usc2015.
