Transfer Housing

Can we get doubles? If so, are we put with other transfers no matter what? Anyone know? Thanks.

My D transferred in 2008 and got a double on a floor that had some other transfers; all of them were in doubles with other transfers. She was in Vandy-Barnard. Most transfers that year were in Kissam; I don’t know if they were all put with other transfers. You just sort of get what you get! D had a heck of a time getting them to put her with the roommate she requested due to a timing issue. They were actually put into doubles across the hall from each other. The kids tried to resolve it with housing but weren’t successful, then the moms tried with no success. Finally, my D wrote a really nice letter to the housing director and they did get switched.

As a newly admitted transfer last year, I was given Vandy-Barnard. However, I did call housing and told them I strongly prefer a single room, and the person on the phone was nice enough to okay my request and put me in a single in Barnard, first floor (it’s technically the second floor, but I don’t feel like elaborating on that). You might want to call them up and ask for a double.

If I listed a single as my preference on the housing application, will I be given a single in all likelihood?

Yep. But you might want to call them and remind them of your single room. Housing can be slow with emails, but they’re usually pretty approachable on the phone and in person.
