Hey guys,

I was wondering if any transfers who are at Cornell now could tell me anything about housing. I'll be a sophomore next year and am not sure where I want to live.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

Same here…do you know anything about the dorms over there? I want to fill out the housing app but I don’t know enough people currently at Cornell to get any decent advice on where to try to live.

What kind of advice do you need? Transfers can live in the Program Houses, on West Campus , or in the Collegetown halls. They can all be really different so it depends on what you are looking for.

well, what are the differences? I mean, which is closest to a gym or dining hall? Do some have communal bathrooms while others are set up like suites?

Well that is all information that is available on the website but here is a general idea.

Program Houses are both suites and corridor depending on the building- most important is that you are interested in the theme though, not the facilities. Two dining halls on North Campus and two work out facilities in the area

West Campus, a combination of Suites (though most are probably taken by returning students by now) and rooms on a corridor. Dining halls in each building- not all are open for every meal and they have expensive unlimited meal plans required. Noyes on West has a gym in it.

Collegetown Halls are corridor rooms. No dining halls in the general area, but you can eat while you are on central before heading back. You can also get a more limited meal plan there. No Gyms but again you can work out while on central campus.

All corridor style rooms use communal bathrooms. All suites have a bathroom in the suite.

thanks for that information, chriori. are the collegetown dorms a drive away from campus or a more of a walk?

If you are realllllllly lazy, you can drive from collegetown…good luck trying to find parking on campus! Collegetown is literally a 5 minute walk from campus. Sheldon (one of the ctown dorms) is a 5 minute walk and Cascadilla is about a 10 minute walk.

There are suites reserved for transfers in the West Campus houses.

Bumping this thread for a couple more questions:
Do most transfers find roommates online or go random?
Also, is there any disadvantage to just putting one preference down? My top choice is West Campus housing, but if I don’t get that…then I don’t really care where I live
