If I were getting a housing assignment on campus, when will I be notified by? I heard I would hear by July but it's July 16th. I just don't want it to be too late to find off-campus housing.

They emailed me a few weeks ago saying I didn’t receive housing but offered me an alternative off campus housing. Check your Stony Brook email.

Thank you for choosing Stony Brook University. As the result of higher retention rates of returning students and an influx of new students, we are unable to accommodate your request for housing on the Stony Brook campus for the 2014-15 academic year. We can, however, offer you an alternative option at Brookhaven Residential Village on Dowling College’s Brookhaven campus, located approximately 20 miles from Stony Brook University in Shirley, New York.

Brookhaven Residential Village is a 289-bed facility, with a hotel-like atmosphere. It features a lobby, comfortable lounge area, game room, fitness center, elevators, and a laundry room on each floor. The residence hall offers apartment-style accommodations, with double-occupancy rooms and kitchen facilities within each unit.

Students who choose to reside at Brookhaven Residential Village will be offered a discounted rate of $3500 for a shared double room (rate is per semester).

Shuttle transportation will be provided to students between Brookhaven Residential Village and Stony Brook University at no additional cost.

Approximately 200 Stony Brook University students are expected to reside at Brookhaven Residential Village in the 2014–15 academic year. Stony Brook students who accept this housing offer will be guaranteed on-campus housing on our Stony Brook campus in the fall 2015 semester, contingent upon completion of all registration and housing renewal processes by the appropriate deadlines.

Additional information about the residence hall, its location and the surrounding area can be found at stonybrook.edu/brookhaven.

To confirm or decline your space at Brookhaven Residential Village, please submit our online response form by Sunday, July 20, 2014 at stonybrook.edu/brookhaven.

Students who decline accommodations at Brookhaven Residential Village will be provided a refund of their housing deposits. For information about off-campus housing options, please visit http://och.fsa.sunysb.edu.

We are excited to welcome you to our University and look forward to seeing you in the fall.

I don’t have an email about not being able to offer me housing. Maybe I did get it.

Did you check your Stony email?

Yup.

Either I got housing on campus or I got nothing at all.

Hmm I’m amazed they haven’t notified you yet. Is there housing charge included in your bill on solar?

Okay, this is a little peculiar.

Last night, my Fall 2014 bill increased by about $4,000 so I checked the specifics and it charged me for a Double. I’m assuming this means they found me a spot on campus. However, I didn’t get any notification via email. Maybe they’re sending the assignment through the mail but I was told I’d be emailed.

Yeah I’m pretty sure you got housing, congrats! If you don’t mind me asking, how far from the school do you live?

Because my bill only charges me for tuition and fees (and oddly the meal plan I choose which they told me I’m no longer entitled to).

Ya, the housing is a new charge that only came up yesterday.

I live in Brooklyn so it’s about an hour drive or three-hour train ride on a good day.
