So what is the housing like for transfer stusents. What’s the best house to stay as a transfer student. According to UD’s website, transfers are not guaranteed housing. As this affected anyone, like not receiving housing. Thanks.
in past years I’ve hear they have put some transfers in the Ray Street Complex. I don’t know if there are any housing preferences for transfers. Also not sure about housing this year… everything is very different with the very large freshmen class moving to other housing. My D has a room mate that is a Senior (off campus housing) this girl still needs one more semester of school to take. She wanted to move back on campus and was told back in December it would be of better advantage to her to find alternate housing because it was very doubtful what would be available to her or transfers. When will they let you know if you actually have a place or not?
Well according to the website it said that transfers will be put on a wait list then contacted if housing is available.
If you look at some of the other threads on this UD Board you will see that UD has closed two old dorm complexes and is opening some new/renovated dorm complexes this Fall for freshman. Freshman Housing this year will include the Ray Street Complex which historically was used for a number of transfer students. So evidently there will be fewer dorm spaces available for transfer students as compared to past years. I suspect this is why there will be a wait list for transfer students. I would just like to add that there is a lot of “off-campus” housing on and around Main Street, some of which is in a better location than many dorms are as far as distance to academic buildings is concerned. When our D was at UD she lived in an apartment for 2 years almost right across the street from the current bookstore. A perfect location. Over half the UD student population lives in such “off-campus” housing. Good luck.
Thanks @Mwallenmd
My daughter is a rising sophomore and she and three of her friends are living in a great apartment next year between Main St. and campus. Unfortunately one of her friends has to transfer and they are trying to find a fourth person to take her place. She has a friend from home that has applied to transfer to UDel and definitely wants to be their fourth if she gets in, but she still has not heard yet. My daughter is in a tough spot because they don’t want to actively look for a fourth until her friend finds out but time is running out because the lease begins on June 1. I have suggested that they contact the realtor they are renting from (Lang Development) and let them know there may be an opening for someone in their apartment and also put an ad in the UDel classifieds for a roommate. Just a tip for transfers looking for housing since I do see currently a few ads for roommates in the classifieds.
