So I’ve just put down my deposit for Fall 2017. I know all about the transfer community in Macnarma/Sylvan but I don’t think I personally want to live there. We’re allowed to start preferencing residential areas June 1. Do I realistically have any chance of Southwest or Central or Orchard Hill or will they all be totally filled. Does anyone know if those areas have any allocated rooms that the university purposely doesn’t fill during housing registration for current students. From my current friends that go there they say I’ll definitely not get the two areas but at the same time I’m not sure why Umass would give us the preference then. Any insight appreciated!
Central or O’Hill, maybe. Doubtful you’ll get into SW. There are rooms that the university doesn’t fill for current students, but almost all of those rooms/buildings are freshmen only. Most if not all transfer students end up in Sylvan for their first year here. I’m assuming they give you a preference because sometimes people will move off campus or drop out or something over the summer, in which case, a vacancy opens up. But for the most part, transfers usually are the last ones who get considered for housing, which is why most of you guys end up in Sylvan.
