So, I had called the transfer housing place today, and well, I thought the things on the website were worded a bit oddly, so I'm posting to possibly clear up a few things.

From what I was told, transfer students will get their application form, around mid March. Since there's no specific date for it, it's just mid March.

We will be able to choose three places

Vera Baits Houses
Oxford
Northwood III

However, last year, they had a lot of spaces in normal residence halls (South Quad, West Quad, Couzens, ect) and they were opened up to transfer students. There is a possibility that it's not the same this year.

Another thing that people might get confused over.

We are not put in a lottery. Our process seems like a mix of freshmen and already-in students. While we don't have a lottery, we have to wait for Freshmen applicants for them to either see if there's enough rooms normally, or we have to wait for them to get done with their housing. Quite honestly, I'm not too sure which it is, but I do hope they open up other housing this year for us.

I think I have everything correct, if anyone sees an error, or wants to add something. Feel free. There seems to be a fair amount of transfer students this year, and around midterm time (mid march), housing is the last thing we want to worry about. Hope this clears somethings up.

honestly, you shouldn't worry too much about housing.
no one really even wants to live in the horrible residence halls except for freshmen. anyways, you can even take care of this after your finals, but here's how everything worked out for me:

-accepted mid-june
-received housing application 2 weeks later
-sent in application, 1st choice oxford, 2nd choice northwood 3
-got my housing assignment about a week later - 2 bedroom apartment in northwood 3
-did a contract reassignment and got offered rooms at couzens, west & south quad
-signed my west quad contract in MID-AUGUST

so yeah, don't worry about what room assignment you get. you can always find someone wanting to get out of their housing contract because UM housing sucks.

as it turns out, i ended up hating west quad, and switched out to a 1 bedroom apartment in northwood 3 and i absolutely LOVE it. let's just say life as a 1st semester transfer student wasn't so great. PM me if you have any questions.

i don't think i would have liked living in any residence hall.
i was just too much older than everyone and all my friends lived in apartments or houses.

Cvjn -- it might help to know how old you are or what class level, and what your major is. If you're in Engineering and upper-level, Northwood III may be a good choice. Older students often want more privacy - and it's close to Engineering, Art/Design and Music. Northwood III doesn't look like much on the outside - but inside they are actually not bad. Oxford really isn't a terrible choice either. It's on the edge of Central Campus and in a neighborhood with a lot of fraternities. A bit quiet, but not completely isolated. If you think you want to go the contract reassignment route, DO NOT sign a housing contract. But this year, there is almost certainly not going to be a problem getting housing on campus.

Since you're only 19 - same age as a lot of first-year students, and since you'll be in LSA, I think you should go for Oxford. If you apply for housing and you don't like your assignment, you're not obligated to take it if you don't like the choice you're given. Just don't sign the contract. You can also call them and see if you can negotiate. They might have something you would like better. Then you can look for something on the reassignment board. Are you male or female? For women, the all-female halls are all on central campus/hill.
