I'm a transfer applicant and wanted to know WHAT ARE THE ODDS of a transfer student getting on-campus housing?? This is a MAJOR factor for me in choosing between UCLA or UCSD. How hard is it to get housing on campus at UCSD?

ok so i posted this in another thread, but this seems fitting as well...

my brother (as a cal community college transfer) and I both got into sixth, n we were wondering about housing...we're cool so it would be ok if we lived together, which is what my parents want.

any recommendations or advice? im sure he cant live in a dorm, but what on campus options do we have?

is it even possible for both of us to live on campus??

also, what are some good off campus choices?

any help would be greatly appreciated

on-campus housing for transfers: nearly unheard of.

of all my transfer friends, none of them scored on-campus housing. this might also because they transferred in 3rd year, which would eliminate any hopes of housing anyway (minus i-house).

basically, junior transfers don't get on-campus housing at all because UCSD only gives on-campus housing to freshmen and sophomores. All juniors must live off-campus, therefore junior transfers cannot live on campus, just like all other juniors at the school.

Yeah, there's basically no spots on campus for transfers. They just started on a huge complex of transfer housing but that won't be open for a couple years so that's not really relevant to any of you guys I guess.

Sterling, the transfer housing is scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.

Hopefully it stays on schedule to do that but there remains the question of who they'll offer the housing to. Will they offer most of it to incoming transfers admitted for Fall 2009? If they do, how many spaces will be open for transfers admitted for quarters before Fall 2009? The bottom line is, transfers admitted for Fall 2008 will need to find housing for next year someplace off campus. Will they want to move on campus for their final year? I'm not really sure.

lol ok, i give up

Premed:

There are lots of nice apartment complexes within a couple of miles of campus that are served by the free UCSD shuttles and are largely filled with UCSD students. They can be less expensive than on-campus housing if you have 2 people per bedroom and you get a living room, kitchen, and parking space to boot.
