Transfer HS Grades..

So it just occurred to me that there aren't any statistics for transfer student high school gpa's. I was wondering, considering everything else as exemplary, what the lowest HS gpa was, or what the HS grade distribution is, for people accepted to transfer to the statutory schools like, say, HumEc for instance..

Thanks :)

I'll start :)

I think my HS unweighted gpa was a 3.86 and my unweighted class rank was 12/101....don't remember what my weighted gpa or rank was.

I was accepted to CALS in 2005

Thanks dewdrop!

I can't find this information in the site anywhere...

Anyone else?

My H.S. unweighted was probably a little below 3.7 and class rank was 14/124 if I remember correctly.

I was just accepted to ILR for spring transfer.

I don't think it matters much so long as you do well at whatever college you're transferring from. I only had my GED and was accepted to HumEc.

Grommet: I'm not sure how a GED works, but what gave you this impression?

Philosopher: A GED is a diploma that shows you have the equivalent education as one would expect in order to graduate from high school. On top of that, my grades were D's and F's on average for the mere year and a half I did attend high school. I'd say that my high school transcripts/GED played very little role in their decision to admit me this past fall.

Interesting. Thanks for the information Grommet!

I'd also point out that gpa is far from everything. It's really important to have ec's, especially ones that show your interest in the subject you're applying to. I'm sure you know that already, but just wanted to note it again!

Very true. Any other opinions on HS grades for transfer admissions to contract colleges?

if you're applying for Fall '09 as a soph transfer, they will only have 1 semester of college to go by (and midterm grades) and that's not much, so much of the focus will be on HS, and your HS gpa will be important. like grommet said, the contract schools seem to be even more about fit than the rest of cornell, so ec's will be a big factor. I thiink you're a really good fit for pam, based on the ec's you posted before.

For junior transfer, they barely look at HS, they focus mostly on college. Most of the people who do poorly in HS, turn it around and work hard in college, then transfer, are junior transfers.

I'm going to bump this just because I'm interested to see if any more people can answer the original question...

ILR.. 3.2uw/3.6w, but senior yr was 3.9/4.6 with lots of college courses, so major upward trend.

Bumping this since its transfer month.

I'm a transfer applicant too (freshman at a community college), and I can say, at least to CALS, they told us in the transfer meeting that HS grades and SAT scores don't mean a thing. We still had to send them, yet they don't have any effect on being accepted whatsoever. Doing well in the college your currently attending as well as recommendations, a great essay, and a "fit-based" interest in the school is what raises your chances.

I'm going to hijack an old thread of mine:

I've gotten one of my friends to think about transferring with me. He is interested in the HBHS major in HumEc, but he thinks he has no chance because he got basically a 3.0 in highschool. He's a freshman at my school right now. Besides anything else, does he have a chance with this HS gpa?

Anyone have an opinion on this ^ ?

Depends on everything else, not just the GPA. His reasons need to be clear, all of the preparatory work and interests, EC's, etc. The longer he waits (by soph year), the less they will look at his hs grades. So if he waits another year and has amazing grades in his 2 years of college (along with the EC's and everything else), the main emphasis is put into the college grades and work, and the HS ones aren't weighed as heavily.

Pretty sure other people have advice on this too

Well I would agree that the longer a person waits to transfer, the more they less they look at HS grades. He does want to transfer, if at all, his freshman year though. I think he has about a 3.9.. Does he have any chance at all?

with a 3.9, why not
