Has anyone done it? My friend who went to a cc orientation told me that they said something about transferring in a year, but she wasn't really listening so she couldn't tell me the specifics.
If you transfer in a year does that mean you have to complete 60 units in 1 year???? Is it harder to get into schools if you are a 1 year transfer?

Yes, and it doesn't matter to UC's if you take one year or two to transfer. If you have 60+ units you are a junior.

I went to high school with a couple of people that went on to CCC and then transferred to UCLA last year. One took one year to transfer(biz econ) and the other took 3 years(philosophy).

W.O.T is right. It took me a year and half, personally, but if you are really crazy you probably could finish it in a year and transfer. Remember, the colleges will look at your most current work-- which means they will weigh heavily on your high school transcripts, if that is the case.

bump.

has anybody else done it in a year?

a girl in my phil class did it in a year and is transferring to UCI. She got into Cal and UCLA, every school, really, but she's going to UCI b/c they're paying for everything and she can live at home.

If you school has a winter session, that's a big bonus. Example, my CC has a winter session and a two part summer session. For winter and for summer, the max number of units is 9.

For fall and spring, the max is 21.

Take 9 units during summer, 21 during fall (apply then), 9 during winter and 21 in the spring... huzzah, 60 units.

Just make sure that you can handle it, know EXACTLY what you want to do and stick to the plan!!

Does one basically have to be an academic beast to pull it off? How difficult is 21 units a semester? And would I have enough time to finish all prereqs/IGETC/TAP???

From what I've seen, most people who transfer in one year already have AP credit for several classes from high school which makes it A LOT more possible.

Women of Troy said:
"Remember, the colleges will look at your most current work-- which means they will weigh heavily on your high school transcripts, if that is the case."

Is this true because I did really bad senior year and just "okay" junior year, which is why I ended up going to community college. I am sure I'll have enough credits using my AP tests using this chart UCLA Undergrad Admissions: AP Credit - School of Engineering and Applied Science

withing one or two semesters at community college.

well, she's a smart cookie. she works on top of that.

you just have to do your best. if you're not cut out for it, not worries, drop some courses and prepare for 2 years at your CC. Summer classes are NOT hard, at least to me. I took 3 in one 5 week period and had enough time to go out and party with my non-summer school attending friends.

Don't freak out, it will only make things worse. :)

Take some time to get to know your CC's IGETC and course catalog. Figure out what classes will be offered in the summer and fall and take the obscure ones first. For who knows if they will offer it in the following spring.

Like I said, plan super carefully. If you mess up, it's not a total disaster. It's not like you're stuck there for the 3rd, 4th or 5th year, all because of some stupid miscalculation.

Mine is spring 2007 - 23
summer 2007 - 11
fall 2007 - 23
winter 2008 - 13
spring 2008 - 25 (I'm struggling I may get six A's and one B).

and you got into Haas too, right Hongda??

Congrats! You certainly deserve it! =)

Thank you xleper17 ^o^.
It's very stressful. I won't do that anymore. lol

GoMiamiDolphins: No I didn't say anything about HS.

CCstudent88 did. :P lol.

I didn't quite finish within one years time, but I also worked full-time. :(

Hongda, I hear ya. It's not something I'd want to do ever again!

Hey Hongda I was wondering if you could post the classes you took each semester including the summer and winter? I'm an aspiring Haas transfer and really would like some sort of direction on what classes I should take first and such.

breadth + pre-reqs????

Honestly, my path isn't that great (I am an immigrant), so I don't think it will help you. My transcript website is maintaining right now. I will post here asap. sorry about that...

I remember...hum..... during the summer session, I took Calculus 1, Physical Anthropology, Macroeconomy, and Sociology.

jfk, there is one thing I want to mention is that don't focus too much on your studies. Extracurricular activities are important too.

I know this threads a few days old and I am new to this site but if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. So here's my situation:

I didn't do so well toward the end of highschool for certain reasons/situations and ended up finishing at a continuation school. I now plan to attend a CC this summer and take whatever classes necessary to transfer to UCLA since it offers both my potential majors. (If i don't get in I do have a few others in mind)

I did, however, have a good number of APs, and calculating from my CC table as well as one posted earlier in this thread I have around 48 credits currently. If i transfer to UCLA under the major with fewer requirements I only need 2 classes to finish breadth req or IGETC, and 3 classses to finish my prereqs for the major. If i decide to change later on, more time at UCLA doesnt bother me...my main goal is getting in.

I plan on taking 2 classes this summer and the last three during fall semester.
I'm just wondering what my situation would be as far as transferring. Technically when i fill out the app in nov i will have only completed 2 classes at the CC and be currently taking 3 even though i fulfill all req. Is that ok for transfer? If not what else should i do? I will talk to a counselor soon but any advice from anyone knowledgeable or anyone with experience would be very helpful.

I know this is a decent chunk of info but i wanted to be as clear about my situation as necessary. To anyone who reads or replies, thanks again!
