Transfer information???

Hi all,
I'm a male currently finishing my Sophomore year in a BFA Musical Theatre program, but I won't be returning next year for a variety of reasons. I'm looking to transfer to another program and I was wondering, so I can began thinking about a list of ideas, if knows what programs accept transfers into Junior standing (I've heard that Fullerton does but I don't know for sure?) and/or what programs accept them into the spring semester (if there are any). Thanks a lot for any help!

Are you looking to transfer into another BFA program? Are you planning on taking a year (or at least a semester) off? Is there a particular prt of the country in which you are interested?

I am looking for another BFA program (or, I suppose, BA with a concentration in Mu Th), and I'll be taking at least the next semester off (probably the year; part of the reason why I was wondering about transfers admitted for Spring semester). Part of the country doesn't really matter to me that much right now as I'm trying to look at all options.

I do not think there are many MT programs that will admit students in the middle of the year... At least I do not know of any.

There are schools that may accept you into the school after two years somewhere else, but most will want you to complete at least three years in their program. Most BFA programs have a specific sequence of study, want you to complete that sequence at their institution, and will not accept many performance class credits from another BFA program... although there may be some exceptions.

If you transfer into a BA program with a concentration in MT, you may have an easier time completing the major courses within two years because they may be more willing to accept performance courses completed at another institution. However, unless your BFA program required you to take a lot of general education courses, you may find that you are behind in your gen eds, and this will require you to take an extra semester or year in college. For example, many BA programs require 55 - 60 credits of general education including two full years of foreign language, math, science, history, english, etc... If you have not been in a BFA program that requires a similar course of study, you may have actually completed most of your theatre credits, and have two years of general education ahead of you.

I would start by looking at the colleges listed at the top of this board, and looking at the "Big List" (you can find this by clicking on the FAQ link at the top of this page).

Also, go back and read all of the threads about the transfer process.

Best of luck!

i believe marymount manhattan will let you audition at semester...im not sure about how they work with transfers though. if you are strong academically, you might consider northwestern. their theatre majors don't even audition for the certificate MT program until the end of their freshman or sophomore years, so you wouldnt be that far behind. other than that, when i was researching for transfer schools i pretty much learned you will be a freshman wherever you go. i happened to get into a sophomore class by the grace of God, but i've never really heard much about junior class standing. good luck!!

I've got another question maybe someone can answer. For those who transferred this year I'm assuming some of you took the old SAT when you originally entered college. Are colleges still accepting that or do you have to take the new one in order to apply as a transfer? Are most places accepting the ACT? I haven't done much college research in a while. Thanks!

all the colleges i applied to accepted my old one from 2003-2004

I used my original SAT/ACT scores, as well. When you have more than X number of credits (usually 25, which you must, as a soph), they don't even ask for a high school transcript anymore.
