I was wondering if anyone has any experience transfering inside of the top 15. I am in a top 15 (i am sure you will figure out which one i am by my profile name), and i do not find it that demanding and was hoping to transfer to the top . Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge about this.

I'm actually a student at the same school looking to transfer... If you receive any information could you let me know? Thanks.

Hey phoniex2008, what school are you attending right now?

My guess would be the University of Chicago.

you have solved the 64,000 dollar question

im also trying to transfer from a top 15 school. I go to jhu. Im looking at harvard, columbia, and a few others. Where are you looking to transfer to?

same here! im looking at stanford and rice (not sure if rice is top 15, but eh, it beats umass amherst, where im at now)

well whoever guessed that i go to the UofC would be right. Also, I am not sure when umass amherset entered the top 15. Either way, since we have all mentioned the fact that we are in the same boat, any problems or advices etc etc

ohhh i know umass isnt in the top 15, i just meant i wanted to transfer into the top 15. (im not there already)

Im not sure where johns hopkins is ranked but im pretty sure its in the top 15. Anyway, im trying to transfer into harvard for economics (for junior year). What is harvard looking for? Does anyone know what the admission officers look for in transfers? And does going to a top 15 school with a good gpa help? Any advice is appreciated.

Hopkins, and my school, the University of chicago, are both top-15, and they share the #14 spot in the usnews poll, for whatver that is worth. I to want to transfer to harvard, or yale, after this, my first, year. I am looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through the process and does not minding helping others out.

Also, has anyone recieved the yale transfer application? It is not on the website yet. Additionally, I was wondering if anyone had recieved a copy of the harvard application in the mail. The reason i ask, is becasue the applicaiton on the website does not ask for an essay which is interesting to say the least. I was wondering if they may have not posted the entire application

I'm a Freshman at Johns Hopkins and am looking at transferring to Harvard, Yale, UPenn, or Georgetown(I don't think Georgetown is top 15 though) for International Studies/Government/Economics. Harvard/Yale would be my top choices, but I know how hard it is to get in there as a transfer student. Upenn and Georgetown I'd be happy with and are relatively easy to get into.

From what I've heard, transfering within the top 15 or so schools is generally not that common. IMHO, Harvard isn't going to take someone from Columbia just because the person wants to go to a "higher ranked school." If you have valid reasons, though, be sure to explain them clearly in the essay, I think they often have a "Why Transfer?" and "Why Here?" essays for Transferees (:)). Good Luck!

I am replying just so I will get notified about new posts, i am interested in the info here. At Brown I knew five or six friends who came as transfers, but I don't have a clue of the process or difficulty...

It seems like alot of us have the same questions, but few answers. I would agree with giaivve, just in general. THat is one of the reasons that I am so suprised that Harvard did not have any essay questions on the transfer applicaton.

Even if they don't ask the question directly, I feel it would be in your best interests to express your reasons somewhere in your application, especially if you are already going to a Top 15 College. Afterall - the academic difference between Harvard and Stanford, for example, is practically negligable at the end of the day.

I received the Harvard Transfer App several weeks ago. The PDF version online is missing two pages. Pages 3-4 of the Harvard Transfer App and 3-4 of the supplement. 3-4 of the supplement is composed of several short essay and one longer "Describe in detail why you would like to transfer to Harvard" essay.

Yale will not print the Transfer App this year. It will only be available for download sometime in the next couple of days.

I just looked at the Harvard site again and discovered the missing pages have been lumped with the Financial Aid application. You'll have to do some rearranging, but all of the pages are there.

I have heard from people on this site that transferring between ivies is especially difficult as they are in communication with one another
