Transfer into Boston College

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming freshman headed to Boston University, but I’ve had my eye on Boston College for quite some time…thus I’m very much considering a transfer at the end of this year. My question is essentially whether or not a transfer (at least for an applicant like myself) is feasible.

I’ve read a few posts regarding some BU students’ successful transfers to BC, so I’m curious if anyone is knowledgeable on the subject. I know BC’s transfer rate is a little ridiculous (isn’t it around 8-9%?) and for a business student like myself it’s probably half that. I’m looking to obtain the best grades possible this year (especially considering the fact that BC wants a 3.5 for “good” candidates), but I feel my sat’s may weigh me down (1930). I’ll definitely going to join some clubs this year and be an active student, but am I hopeless? If anyone could lend some advice as to the route I’m considering (whether I apply to CSOM or not), it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

What were your high school stats?
And come back here once you finish your first year and then we’ll talk.
It’s highly unlikely to judge whether you will be a probable candidate at this time without any first-year records given.

Good luck on your way working to transfer in.

transferring into CSOM is highly unlikely because they consider internal transfers first, and then others. However, you may have a shot at arts/sciences. If you have your heart set on business, you can always do an economics major in arts/sciences :).

But ou have nothing to lose by applying so i say go for it

If I applied to CAS, could I technically double major and reach into CSOM? Say econ and finance?

Depends, if they let you.

you have to get into CSOM and they let you reach into A/S. Can’t reach into CSOM by being in A/S.

PA2009… As a transfer student myself, I meet a decent number of students who transfered from BU (10-ish?) at orientation. I came from Northeastern University and on BC’s transfer site, they list a number of schools that they annually get 12+ transfers from. (link: [At A Glance - 2005 / 2004 - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/admission/undergrad/transfer/ataglance.html)). However, that I know of, I am the only transfer student admitted from Northeastern for the 2009 Transfer Class (those stats were from 2008). You also need a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible to transfer.

This year, for Fall 2009 Transfer, I believe BC said they received over 1,500 applications and admitted 135. (This was from my acceptance letter.)

Lastly, here is a FAQ question about CSOM for Transfers:
Is it easier to be admitted to one major over another?

Students must apply to one of the four academic divisions at Boston College (The College of Arts and Sciences, the Carroll School of Management, the Connell School of Nursing and the Lynch School of Education) and selectivity is very similar across the divisions, with the exception of the Carroll School of Management. In recent years, few seats have been available in the Carroll School of Management, thus allowing us to enroll only a handful (5-10) of new sophomores and juniors. Please be advised that applying to a different undergraduate division with the intent of transferring into the Carroll School of Management once enrolled at Boston College is not advised.

Good luck at BU as well as your Transfer if you decide to apply to BC.

Thanks so much for the help everyone.

Can you please answer my last reply question on my post “Boston College Academics” ? Please, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Why the rush to transfer? I say give BU a chance to see how you like it before jumping ship. Of course, if you’re jumping ship, there is no better one to jump to than BC.

I was accepted early as a freshman last year and decided not to go. Now that I am applying to get back in as a transfer, is this going to hurt or help my chances?
