Hello everyone, I'm planning on applying to UT's ChemE program as a transfer student, I have 64 credit hours (including lower level math classes(trig, precal) and 4 hours that won't transfer) from a community college in Dallas and a 3.95 GPA (My one B was in Cal II if that matters).

According to the "Cockrell School of Engineering 2008-2010 Transfer Guide for Texas Community College Students" ( 2008-2010 TCCN/UT Engineering Transfer Guide ) I'm short the following classes:

Bio 1 (Bio 1406)
O-Chem 2 (Chem 2425)
Cal III (Math 2415)
//Taking the above this coming fall and maybe couple below
Diff Eq (Math 2320 or 2420)
A literature class
2 foreign language courses
Hist 1302
Govt 2302

Assuming my essays are well written, does anyone think I have a chance at a spring transfer?

You really only need to have completed calc II and eng phys I to be considered for Cockrell admissions. Obviously the more prereqs you have completed the better your chances will be.

When I was looking at Penn State (I think) one of the requirements to transfer into a chem major was completion of 6 (or 8, I can’t remember) semester hours of chemistry like General Chemistry. However, the campus of my community college doesn’t offer that many (the other ones do, but they’re too far for me to get to on a regular basis without driving 2-3+hours a day getting to and from school and work). They told me if I couldn’t complete all the pre-reqs, then my app would be sent to the college and it’ll be up to them to decide whether my application is strong enough without it. Now, what this school told me might differ from what UT Austin will tell you, but it won’t hurt just to be 100% certain.
