Transfer into Clark

I was recently admitted into University of Maryland College Park. I applied to the engineering program, but I was sadly rejected (odd, because I got into RPI, U of Rochester, Northeastern, etc). On a visit day I asked about transferring into the program, and I was told that if I got above a 3.00 freshman year and took some required classes, I would be guarenteed admittance into the program. Seemed odd, but I took it as the truth.

Fast forward, now there are precious few days left for my decision. College Park seems to be the top because I am a Maryland resident, and thus would only be driven into debt in a minor manner. However, I came across a document that said "students may not apply to an LEP program more than once." I am wondering if they have dealt in a duplicitous manner with me, just to nab me, to get another fool roped in.

Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

yes if you have the base requirements for the clark school, im pretty sure they’ll let you in. when they say you can only apply once i think that means only once to transfer in, so the time you applied as an incoming freshman does not count.

Okay. What about the odds of getting in? Is it an automatic pass, if you meet the requirements? I kinda have a hard time understanding that, because it would mean that the transfer students would get priority over incoming undergraduates and that seems odd to me.

Ambleby, remember there will be students who start out in the LEP for engineering that change majors. I’m certain they also expect a certain number of students will transfer in after completing the CORE so they will provide enough spaces for that. What I’ve picked up is that by doing the CORE requirements the first two years and keeping your grades up, you will be able to get into the program as an upperclassman.

Here are the requirements for transferring in:

[Office of Undergraduate Advising and Academic Support, A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland](http://www.eng.umd.edu/advising/advising_admissions.html)

and yep, it pretty much is an automatic “in” if you meet those requirements. Remember that the main engineering advising office is a bit hard to work with sometimes (at least, in my experience for transferring in to Clark), so just make sure to stick to your guns. Also, at the beginning of the semester in which you’re completing your last few required classes for transferring in, make sure to get in touch with advising early on and find out when the transfer workshops are. I didn’t do this, and almost got stuck waiting another semester before getting into engineering.

As far as the original issue is concerned, I believe they only mean once you’re a student here, and trying to transfer in. However, even if that’s not correct, it’s often very possible to make a valid case for yourself to have the requirements lifted for you. Good luck.
