Hey y'all long time lurker very seldom poster. I was wondering what my chances are getting into Mays. I'm currently enrolled at The University of Oklahoma, I completed my first semester with 16 hours with a 3.2 GPA and I'm taking 15 hours this semester. Hopefully by the end of the semester I will likely have anywhere from a 3.2 to 3.4. My essays will be well prepared and prepped before I send them off. Here are an additional two questions. If my chances getting into Mays are not to bright, what do they look like if for my second choice, Biology? If you get denied admission into A&M will they give the option to enroll for Blinn team? I look forward and open to everyone's response. Thanks for your time.

I hate to say with that GPA, realistically your chances getting into Mays’ as right out transferring are not very bright. I have heard that each Fall (no spring admission) they only take 75 transfers out of the entire pool and that is it. Most of these people have almost all the business reqs knocked out and are easily above 60+ hours.

You are in a similar position as I was last Spring. I am a Sophomore currently, and transferred into A&M Fall 2010 after a Fall/Spring semester at a CC with a 4.0. I had 37 hours to transfer in with, and indicated Mays’ as my primary and General Studies as my secondary choice (personally I would have suggested this, but they may put you in General Studies either way).

Realistically, if you get into A&M I would suggest internally transferring into Mays’. Mays’ takes more people internally transferring than externally. But there is the catch with getting into Mays’ and boy I am thankful I did my research on this.

To internally transfer into Mays’ you need the required business courses completed with a (3.0+ GPA), and a total of 30 hours at A&M. BUT you CANNOT EXCEED 75 credit hours.

In your current position, you are almost exactly where I was a year ago. Just make sure to get that transcript from OU in ASAP once you conclude your spring semester. And if you are entirely confident in your essays as you say you are, submitting the app ASAP doesn’t hurt either.

On a side note, if you are managed to be lumped in General Studies my incoming transfer class they told us they looked at GPAs and went straight down the list starting with the highest (I would assume there were exceptions to that). I can imagine they would weight people more highly coming from universities compared to community colleges. But who knows. I wouldn’t sweat GPA too much because I have confidence in you to rock this current semester if you want to get here bad enough!

Oh and PS. I’d consider taking business law at a community college, and not here. If you don’t do that, don’t take it your first semester at A&M. I made a B, but holy hell haha.

Good luck, and I hope that didn’t seem to be a jumbled mess of info!

Everything the above poster submitted, is correct…I’m trying to transfer from Blinn but I have a 3.8 and I’m not confident at all. The avg. GPA for last year’s transfers was 3.7…
