Sup guys. I'm applying to UCLA for Fall '08 with a History Major. I am not sure whether I want to stick with History major once I am at UCLA. The only other major I want to go into if not History, is Business Economics. However, You have to be directly admitted into Business Economics and once you're in UCLA you can't change into, or so the admission website "http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr.htm " says. I have asked a few people that I know attend UCLA and they said they changed majors a lot of time, but they got in as freshman and said they are not sure how changing majors works for transfers. Please advise on whether there is a remote chance on changing your major into Economics or Business Economics once your at UCLA.

P.S. I would have applied with Business Economics, but I have not complete both Calculus Courses and therefore cannot apply with it anyway.

try applying as straight econ if you haven't met the bizecon reqs. you can change to bizecon with ease if admitted as econ/international/mathecon type majors.

hey thanx for responses guys. well i found both calculus courses online at berkeley extension and I will see if I can take those by asking my counselor. But if I finish both calculus courses by the end of summer then can I notify UCLA and change my major before I even start there?

Berkley doesn't allow to take planning courses in the summer before the fall enroll. You need to finish by the end of spring. UCLA probably the same as Berkley

From experience the answers you recieved are not fully accurate.

I entered UCLA as a Math/Econ major- not in the Econ department but in the Math department.

I emailed the Econ department asking if i can change into their department, but my resooning was more like "i am doing most of your classes anyways" i was told that i can do it if my stats were equal to the stats of average addmited students for the Econ major that term..... they werent though so i didnt get to change. But if your GPA is up to par and you give compelling reasons they might let you do it. My point is, its not set in stone.

malishka, that is good to know.. i have heard that double majoring in two impacted majors that do not allow transfers to switch into them after originally being admitted into another dept, like psych and econ, is not impossible from a ucla rep.. do you think that the exception granted to you was because of someone's discretion or some unspoken policy?

If you are admitted as a math/ECON major you are already part of the economics department so I believe your case is a little different as a history major. Best of luck to you though.
