<p>Hey guys, I'm looking to transfer to UMD in Fall 2013 as a sophomore. I just wanted to know how competitive transfer admissions are and if someone has transferred before, how rigorous is the process of applying as a transfer? </p>

<p>I got accepted as a transfer student for Fall 2012. Here’s my stats
1210 SAT 670 Math and 540 Reading
3.74 GPA unweighted for High School
Ranked 25 percent back in High School
3.21 GPA for College</p>
<p>Extracurricular don’t matter unless you’re looking into a Business major. It does help you for writing down your essay. Having a very emotional essay does help though. </p>
<p>Transfer acceptance is easier for anyone that is in-state. I’m pretty sure that I did have some weaknesses like a low College GPA and SAT scores but my high school grades and having an emotional essay sealed the deal for me. My belief is that you need two strong aspects in your application if you are in-state. The out-of-state requirements are an uncertainty to me but I expect having transferable credits to be a factor too. You may have a 4.0 gpa and good SAT scores but if you have credits that do not transfer into Maryland credits, what’s the reason for you to transfer if you have to take similar classes again?</p>
<p>It seems that the most important factor in successful applicants has been the college GPA. UMD is willing to overlook subpar high school scores or SATs if you can prove that you are a serious and good college student.</p>

UMD said they will not look at my high school scores again since I was rejected from their engineering program initially. So I suppose, for me, the process is centered just around college GPA and class rigor. But how is the application process itself? I mean the freshman application I filled out for Fall 2012 was very lengthy and asked for 3 letters of recommendation. I don’t mind doing it again but I would assume the transfer app. is a lot shorter?</p>
<p>Also I am an instate student at UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore County). UMBC is quite strong in the sciences but I just love the feel of UMD better. It’s rumored that many UMBC students transfer to UMD on an annual basis.</p>
