Hi,
I am currently a high school senior trying to finalize my college decision. Unfortunately, I am not happy with my college choices currently. I just wanted opinions on what you think my chances are with getting accepted into Wharton as a transfer.
I would plan on transferring from my local community college to UPenn during my sophomore year. I also would take my SAT's again because my scores the first time were not too good, but I did not prepare for them. In high school, I participated in football (team captain), track and field, National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, student store worker, school credit union worker, and volunteering at several events. I am top 9% in my class unweighted and top 15% weighted. I think I could write really good essays with good stories if that would help or not. By the way, I would be also playing football if accepted. I have been in contact with the coach.
What do you guys think? Be honest and let me know. Do you think I should pursue this route and just go to one of the schools I have already applied to? Anything would help!

Thanks

What exactly do you mean by “talking to the coach?” I mean, if he wants you to play and you have decent academics, then yeah you’ll get in.

Well, It would be more of a walk-on situation. Because I would not be playing football at the community college, the coach can’t help with admissions. So, I have to get in on my own as a regular student and not a recruit.

Oh, I see. Without knowing more about you, it’s hard to say what your chances of getting in are. I can tell you that, of all the Ivy Leagues, Penn is among the most accepting when it comes to taking in transfers, even from CC’s.

Wharton accepts like 10 transfer students a year or something ridiculously low like that, so I would say nobody really has a good chance to get in.

I talked to admissions and they said on average there are 30 openings. Still very low though. Not sure how many people total apply as transfers to Wharton on average each year.

Would Penn accept a transfer student that is a part-time?

I think I misread your question. I interpreted it as “would Penn accept a transfer who is applying to Penn to be a part-time student?” which I think was the wrong interpretation. You could apply to Penn even if you are part time (probably), but once you got there you would most likely have to enroll full time.
