Hi, I am transferring in Fall 2013 and am wondering if I need to take the math placement exam. I go to Virginia Tech right now and almost completed Math 1205 (Calc I) and it says on our transfer credit database that it transfers for Math 140 at UMD. However, on UMD's transfer credit look up it doesn't say the course transfers for anything but says 1215 transfers for Math 140. There is no Math 1215 here at school so was that just a typo. Math 1205 is one of the requirements that all engineering students have to take here. Does this exempt me from taking the placement exam once I complete it this semester? I emailed this to transfer advising but no one replied to me.

Hi vtech,

If you have any doubts, go ahead and take the test. It’s not a big deal, it’s easy (online) and then you don’t have to worry about it :)

Im not sure about this but in your case you might have to take the credit by exam for math140. I dont think the math placement exam will place you into math141 (Calc 2). Its used for people who havent taken calc so in your case since you have a calc course already but you are not sure if it transfers you might have to take the credit by exam. You will have to get the forms for that at hornbake library.
