transfer merit

so the published deadline for transfer merit notification is june 1st... let us know if and when you've heard back!

also - if any current students received the transfer merit scholarship or know someone who has, please share stats and other details.

I have the same question...bumpp

oh ok I called and they will be mailed the first week of june.

I just received my transfer merit scholarship letter today. I got the dean's transfer scholarship, quarter tuition. It said that dean's was as high as they went for transfers.

congrats! is that one-time or reoccuring?

congrats! that's awesome... do you mind sharing your stats?

Thanks guys, I'm really excited. It's renewable for up to 6 semesters if you transfer in as a sophmore, 4 semesters as a junior. I had a 3.91 from a ccc, honors certified, was a student senator, some other ec's.

I got that one too. Quarter tuition is around $8375 right? Sucks that the most they'll give to a transfer is quarter tuition. Oh well money is still money

congrats, azynbio87... exactly, money is still money. transfer merit would cover the $8,000 my current finaid package doesn't.

has the scholarship shown up on oasis and/or sig yet?

socal: A merit scholarship wouldn't cover the $8,000 your finaid is short. It just replaces finaid, it doesn't add to it. It sucks because my scholarship will just go to replacing a university grant I got for finaid and the total amount I have to pay will stay the same.

WHAT!??!!?? I thought the merit scholarship goes towards lowering your work-study and loans? I have a $20,000 university grant so does that mean instead of getting that I'm going to end up with $12,000??

this scholarship wont help at all then.. =[

aznhyboi: I don't think it replaces grant money in every case. In my case, since I am federally independent but university dependant, I think it will eat away at my university grant. My federal EFC is 0, so I get the maximums for loans and work-study, however my university grant is based on my parent’s income which is much higher. Since the scholarship is not enough to change my federal loan eligibility as independent, I should still receive the maximums. However, because my scholarship and finaid combined cannot exceed my calculated financial need, it looks like they will take away from my grants. OASIS has not updated yet, so it remains to be seen, and I hope you are right, but I suspect in my case, I will be disappointed.

craap, that's right. i do remember being told something like that... selective memory, i guess. at the very least, a merit scholarship would cover some of my federal loans. if remember correctly - they replace loan money first for scholarships given by the university, but usually begin deducting grant money for outside scholarships.

bob - so there's no "transfer merit" listed under your financial aid summary, right?

socal: No, my finaid has not been updated to reflect the scholarship yet, so I really don't know how they will change my finaid package. I really hope they will let it go to cover some of my loans in my case too.

Well, they updated my FinAid today. The scholarship amount was $8,802. The scholarship only lowered my university grant by about $2,500 and got rid of a $2,500 Perkins loan. The rest went towards increasing my overall FinAid package by about $4,500. I'm very happy.
