Transfer option for the Class of 2015?

Anybody else receive this? I suppose it's not the worst news, but it's not what I hoped for. I applied to CALS and received this option. Can anyone shed light on the specifics?

If it’s a GT (guaranteed transfer), you basically go to another college for a year, take some required courses while maintaining a certain GPA, and then you will be guaranteed a transfer for your sophomore year.

Are you talking about a GT? And when do they begin offering GT’s?

In my letter it says I didn’t get in but I will receive a transfer option package in the mail shortly. I’m calling tomorrow.

Sounds like a GT to me. Congrats! I got a GT offer and am now at Cornell and couldn’t be happier. In some ways, it’s actually kind of a good thing-- I got a free year of college for taking essentially the same BS core required classes I would have been taking at Cornell anyway, but for $50K cheaper. Also, it’s pretty cool to have two college experiences.

I received the same transfer option today for the human development program in the school of human ecology. Please let me know what they say about the offer when you call!!! Is the transfer option for a semester or for a year?

I received that for ILR (I’m assuming becuase that’s the one I applied to). Is everyone who is rejected from Cornell get this?

BTW what did your guys’ letters say when you found out about the transfer option?

i recieved the same letter from CALS and called this morning. a recording says they will not be speaking to anyone until monday and those who recieved transfer options will be recieving more info shortly…

does a GT mean u have to go to a certain school for a year? or like anywhere? and is it a semester or a year or more?

No, this is by NO means offered to everyone who is rejected. It’s essentially for students who they think will succeed at Cornell, but they currently do not have room to have them enroll.

You can do your first year at any accredited university or community college, provided that they have the required courses that Cornell wants you to take. It’s a fantastic opportunity, and a great way to get off a year easy if you go to a state school where you got a full ride (which is what I did).

It’s for 1 year, not a semester.

Thank you! I’m so excited!! I’ll probably go to Binghamton University until the transfer.

I know TONS of GTs who went to Bing who successfully transferred in, so you are in good company
Congrats again!

My son transferred to Cornell the “traditional” way, but has tons of friends who were GTs, and they are all loving Cornell! Cornell is great with their transfers–they all live on West Campus with other transfers and upperclassmen (no freshmen) so they have two advantages: the chance to make friends with the other transfers, and the chance to make friends with other non-freshmen.

Thanks! I’m still in shock I got offered the GT because of my extremely low sat scores. What classes does Cornell usually require you to take?

Depends on the major/College…I’m COMM (CALS) and I had to take 2 sem. of bio, 2 sem of writing, statistics, intro to psych or soc, and I that’s about it I think? Also, you have to take 15 credits/semester, and get a 3.5.

I just got my GT letter. At least for ILR, the courses are: Two freshman English courses, two introductory economics courses, and one in each of the following categories [Western intellectual tradition, science and technology, cultural perspectives.]

I assume the last three are something like philosophy, some sort of science and some sort of world culture course.

This makes me so much happier about my rejection! ^_^

I also got the GT for ILR. If I do decide to transfer for my sophomore year, would I be able to switch to the College of Arts & Sciences if I decide that ILR isn’t for me?

You know how it says that the school we applied to is offering us the transfer option and will notify us with more info in the next few days. Will we be getting something is the mail about it?

Yup, you’ll get a packet listing all the requirements for each individual major. You want to make sure that whichever school you choose to go to not only offers ALL the classes you need to take, but that all the credits will EQUALLY transfer to Cornell. That’s really important.

For those who got ILR, did the GT letter come in mail? and on the decision letter, they they tell you tell you something about offering you a transfer option?
