Transfer options for accounting major

Hello, I am a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill who’s looking to transfer out to a business school to study accounting. Facing my inevitable rejection from the Kenan-Flagler business school (3.26 GPA), I have started looking into other options since I have realized an economics major is not for me. Unfortunately, I have done poorly in some critical classes. I got a C in Business Calculus my first semester, a C+ in Statistics second semester, and a C+ in Microeconomics in my most recent semester. Fortunately, I got a A- in Financial/Managerial accounting in the spring. I went to a competitive high school and got a 4.3 GPA. Pretty strong SAT scores with 690 Math, 730 Reading, and 660 Writing. I have a good resume with banking experience, a decent amount of extracurricular and service activities, a recommendation from my English professor. Ideally, I would like to major in accounting AND German at a solid business school that I can transfer into and graduate from in 4 years and then sit for the CPA exam after graduation. I am from Charlotte but I don’t have a problem going somewhere far from home. Basically, I would just like an objective view at my profile and what my best course of action would be. I will be sad to leave Chapel Hill, but I want to study accounting. I am currently looking at:

Elon University (brother graduated from there)

NC State (Poole College of Management)
University of South Carolina
University of Tennessee at Knoxville
University of Pittsburgh
Northeastern University
Texas Christian University

Boston College

Add Bentley University to your list.

But before you transfer, it seems like you should talk to a counselor. I bet you can pull up your GPA by taking a lighter load and other accounting classes. You get A’s in those and your GPA should rise up to get you into the business school at UNC. What is the number? Most allow entry with a 3.5GPA. Your really close.

Unfortunately the average admit at KF is almost a 3.7 and sometimes that isn’t enough. I know math majors with 3.8/3.9 GPAs that didn’t get in. I could get to a 3.5 but I really doubt I can get into KF. And thanks, I’ll look into Bentley. What are the odds I can get into those other business schools? How much is UNC’s reputation worth?
