I am currently a sophomore at Davidson College and am looking to transfer. I am a division 1 athlete, but due to a career ending injury I will no longer be able to play, and therefore am looking to transfer. The problem, however, is I have a low gpa of 2.83. I have taken hard classes at a competitive college, but I know a B- average will keep me from being accepted to most competitive schools. Will having strong extracurriculars from a prestigious college increase my chances of acceptance? What are some schools within reach for me? If I want to go to a large, competitive school like University of Virginia, are there any things I can do to increase my chances of admission, such as enroll in a community college for a semester to boost my gpa? My high school stats are strong, with a 4.0 gpa and 33 ACT, but I’m not sure how much influence that has on an application. Any advice or input is appreciated!
What is your major?
Economics
Also I’m currently no need financial aid so FA or costs don’t play a role in my decisions
Your high school academics will be less important because you have been in college for over 1 full year. The most important thing for you to do is to show that you can perform academically at the level that they will expect. If you are staying at Davidson for the Spring, then try to do well and see if they can give you a decision after you get your Spring 2016 grades. Going to a Community College next Fall might not be an option since you already have 2 full years of credit. If you are leaving Davidson now, then Community College might be an option for the Spring 2016 term.
