Transfer (Or Admissions in General) Tips

Does anyone have any tips in regards to brightening my record to improve my chances for transfer to Columbia? I'm a freshman at the University of Kentucky now, and I'm planning to apply for transfer next year, for entry as a junior. (Would have applied this year, but my first semester wasn't the best.)

Some info about me: I play guitar very often (jazz, classical, shred, you name it) and am planning to send in a CD to demonstrate what I can do. I play guitar in a band (sort of hardcore, sort of spacey) which is slowly gaining a bit of a following in the area. I also play soccer, although I missed the club tryout deadline this year and only played on an intramural team, which came in second place in the tournament, if that matters. I played for two years varsity in highschool. I'm also planning to join the academic team either this year (what remains of it) or next. I'm also in the Honors program here. I plan to focus on what Columbia has to offer in terms of Creative Writing (UK has only two or three prose writing classes, all of which I am considered advanced past because of my ACT scores in English and Reading) as well as something with Biology. I also have a job as a market research analyst, if that matters. ("Market research analyst" is the title I have, which means that I sit in a cubicle for 4 and a half hours, call random phone numbers, and conduct short surveys over the phone.)

If anyone has any tips besides "keep your grades up and study lol," feel free to post.
