I'm a psychology major at Virginia Tech and planning on transferring(maybe) to Binghamton as a psychology major for next fall. I have been a psychology majorsince I was a freshman here so I have taken over 10 psychology classes. But I'm not sure at this point whether transferring is the right thing for me to do. I have a couple of questions to ask you guys in this regard.

My goal is to attend graduate school in clinical psychology. My overall GPA at
VT is a 3.1 which is lower than most students who get into clinical psychology programs. However, my in-major GPA is 3.72. I was hoping that by transferring, I can "start over" so that I can work hard to graduate with honors (3.5+). But I wasn't sure how graduate schools would look at this. Would transferring give me another chance at getting a good GPA to be competitive for clinical psychology admission? Also, how difficult is it to participate in research like I did at VT? I love Virginia Tech and the opportunities provided me with, however I am an out of state student and with only a year left before I graduate, I'm afraid I will have a difficult time finding a job or attending graduate schools with my current situation.

Basically what I'm asking you is, will transferring to Binghamton and doing
well in my classes increase my chances of admission into clinical psychology
program? I plan on staying at Binghamton for a 1.5-2 years because I hope to
add another major. I know this is something I should discuss with you in
person, but I wasn't sure if transferring was the right thing for me. My
intuitions tell me I should transfer to Binghamton and try to achieve
excellence, but I'm afraid that all the hard work I did to get my grades at my
current institute wouldn't be considered when I'm applying to grad schools and
Psy Chi.

Thank you guys for any comments or advice in advance.
I want to do thats best for myself, but I'm not sure if staying here will be the right choice. Thank you guys again!
