Transfer or Stay?

Ok, here's the story:
In the Fall of 2010, I will be entering UF. I plan on becoming a Finance/Math double major. UF only offers a BSBA-Fin degree, not a pure finance degree. I had hopes of attending Georgetown Business or GWU but was rejected due to my not so stellar GPA (3.96 weighted). UF is a T50 Undergrad Business program but I want to go into Trading, I-Banking, or Hedge Funds after completing a Financial Engineering Masters. My question is, would it be worth attempting to transfer to Georgetown, Wharton, or another T10 program after a year at UF?

Thank you for reading

Yes, it definitely would. Though your chances of transferring successfully into any one specific program are low, your chances of transferring into at least one program, if you apply to many, are decent. Business prefers that you go to a target school for undergrad.

I agree. Going to a top school is especially important for the fields you mentioned. You should make yourself a competitive applicant and blanket these with transfer applications: [Best Undergraduate Business Programs - Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/spec-business)

Would coming out with a 3.8 or above, internships, and leadership get me into a top Graduate school? I have the connections into the industry (father is one of the top consultants in risk management) needed to get a top internship. He told me to stay at UF and work as hard as I can and see if I can take Graduate-level Finance classes as electives or just extra courses.

If you want to do an MBA program, you will probably need about 5 years of work experience to attend a top school. If your work experience is good, then you could definitely go there with the situation you described. If your father can get you a job, you’ve basically won the life lottery so you might as well stay put and collect your winnings.

Get a 3.7+ GPA freshman year and try to transfer into any more prestigious college. This means you have to hit the ground running at UF. Minimal partying and other frosh BS.
