Transfer Orientation?

Did anyone attend the June 30th Transfer Orientation? I’m scheduled to go to the July 21st one (Monday), but I had a few questions beforehand…

Does it really go from 9am-5:30?

What do you do during that time period?

Should my parents come too? Isn’t there a family orientation to go along with the student orientation?

Can you leave before 5:30? Or are you required to stay the entire time?

Any thoughts?

if it is like the freshman orientation, the key issue as to when you can leave will be when you are done with course registration -- that was the last thing on the schedule. how quickly registration goes will depend on whether your first choice courses are full and you have to spend time finding others -- best to be prepared with alternatives so that registration can go as quickly as possible.

did your family register to go also? if not and they want to go, call and see if it is too late -- there is a fee to cover the lunch and "materials" -- if it is run like freshman orientation, there will some programs you attend with your family, but mostly separate information sessions for them and you.

For those of you who did go already, were there a lot of parents there, or just a few?

If not a lot of parents went with their kids, I think I'll tell my parents I'll go solo. If there really isn't a need, what's the point?

If your previous school used Banner, you'll be familliar with how to register. Also, check out BingBuilder.com - Building Better Schedules before you go, you might be able to put together a schedule for yourself and have the course registration numbers (CRNs) handy before you sit down at the computer. It made things much lower-stress, at least for me.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

So you've at least seen some parents there?

I guess my parents had already paid for their "orientation," so they're going to be going too. It would have been kind of weird being the only person there with their parents.
