Transfer Out Of Cornell

I'm looking to transfer out of Cornell. I'm applying to Claremont McKenna College in CA. I hate all the frat parties here, alcoholic student body, too busy professors who don't have enough time for undergraduates, lack of opportunities b/c of its size comparable to a state univ, depressing weather, etc. Seriously Cornell is draining life from me and I must get outta here. Please tell me what my chances are.
My high school stat:
GPA: 4.5
SAT: 2120
SAT II: World History 750, Math IIC 720 Chem 700
College GPA: 3.7~3.8ish
Will have completed 29 credits by the end of this semester.
I did fairly a lot of ECs at high school incl. club activities and volunteer work, but I did a few ECs at college. Is it going to hurt my chances a lot? If you think CMC is a reach for me, then could you recommend me some other schools whose dealines have not passed yet. Thank you.

I don't think it is a reach fo you. You have a lot going for you. I personally don't think college ECs are a big deal after only one year, but I could be wrong ( however, their lack didn't hurt my son when he applied last year to several very selective schools). Anyway, you can't change it so don't worry about it.

Although it's not a reach, they only accepted 30% for transfer last year; so it's not safe either. So if you really want a change, you need to add some schools with higher transfer acceptance rates to give yourself some options. You haven't told us enough of what you're looking for. In California, you might try Santa Clara University - they have a fairly late transfer app deadline.

i think cmc is great, i hope you get in

CMC is a match for you, and I'd predict that you'll be accepted if you write some good essays. You really do have some great reasons for leaving - just be sure to not be too hard on Cornell in your essays and instead focus on the positive characteristics that CMC has.

Other schools with late deadlines that may have a better environment - Emory, Grinnell, and Northwestern.

why not pomona?

I don't think I have a shot at Pomona. Isn't Pomona harder to get into? I like both schools though. Thanks everyone for replying!

not by much, i think you have a decent chance at pomona. does it have to be one of the claremont colleges? what about reed in portland?

pomona is way harder to get into than cmc.....

You're right. It's a very difficult school to get into. Besides, the deadline for Pomona has already passed.

I PM'd you with a brief concern. Just a heads up. Best of luck with your current situation and your transfer!

Don't listen to any of the above posters. You will get into Claremont, they would love to have a transfer who did well at an Ivy League school. I would call it a sure thing

You do realize that CMC is, by most standards (ie percent accepted and average SAT scores), harder to get into than Cornell? Just because Cornell happens to be in a particular athletic conference does not mean that the CMC admissions officers would be falling all over themselves to get transfers from there.

I would also argue that Pomona is not "way harder" to get into than CMC, and just applying to CMC because it seems like an easier version of Pomona is probably not a great idea. But if the transfer deadline for Pomona already passed, then I guess that point is moot.

Anyway, I think you have a pretty good chance, but at any small school, transfers can be pretty unpredictable. Some years they might admit a good number of transfers and then the next year almost none. It's just a matter of how much space they have and what kind of other transfers happen to be applying. So while I wouldn't call it a reach, if you really are miserable, I would recommend applying to some other schools too just in case.
