Transfer personal statement quality?

Hi everyone!

I am seeing a lot of questions asked about personal statements. I always thought that if you were a freshmen or a cc transfer student who wants to attend UCLA or UCB then personal statements were important. I have heard that most of the other UC's such as Davis disregard them completely. I know UCI and UCM also read personal statements but do you think it is at the same caliber as UCLA or UCB?

I have a cousin who transferred to UCSD and he totally BS'd his personal statement. For now it is looking like i want to go to UCSC but UCI and UCM may still be a possible choice for me. I feel as though my essay isn't horrible but it also isn't the best, should i be worried about UCM or UCI? I do have a 3.86 GPA, so i am hoping that can save me. I guess what I am asking is, does UCI and UCM look at personal statements for transfers at the same quality as UCB and UCLA?

I know two people that got into UCB Haas school of business. The first had a 3.6 GPA with a GREAT personal statement. He was rejected from UCLA Biz-Econ. The second had a 3.8+ GPA with above average but def not great/amazing personal statement. He was accepted to UCLA Biz-Econ.

Moral of the story is UCB is the only school that really puts a HEAVY emphasis on personal statements. Furthermore more only really competitive majors like business or engineering really care about personal statements. The rest aren’t competitive enough and grades decide everything.

Basically if you don’t need a write a great personal statement. Just a good enough one, maybe even slightly better than average. Just try not to say anything that makes you seem crazy or risky.
