I'm an international student and freshman in a four-year college.
My dream schools are UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, and those schools.

I want to transfer because I don't like/hate my college. it's boring and I'm really disappointed to be here.

I want to transfer to UCs, but here's the problem.
UCs prefer/only accept junior level transfer applicants with more than 60 credits.
I want to get into UCs but I can't stand for staying this school for more than a year.

I' thinking whether I should transfer twice...(I know it would be difficult)
reset of GPA and transferable credits would be problem here...It hurts me because currently im maintaining pretty well grades in classes...
I'm thinking to transfer to BU or Northeastern as sophomore transfer, then transfer to UCs after gaining more than 60 credits. So I can get out of this terrible school earlier.

The other plan is:
wait until Spring 2014 to transfer...to UCs.
I'm going to earn 16 credits in this fall.
another 16 credits in next spring.
12-18 credits for summer.
16 credits in fall 2013.
-> it would be more than 60 credits at the end of Fall 2013.

Should I sacrifice my campus life?
Or should I transfer twice?

I posted to UC but they told me to consider about attending Community college…
…UCs are one of my top dream schools but I just want to attend those colleges that are famous worldwide… like USC, NYU, and Carnegie Mellon…

Are you not aware of the state of California’s higher education system?

The best way to get into a UC is to be a community college student. You will not bring shame upon yourself for attending a community college. But honestly, how the heck are you going to pay for a UC if you’re out of state? They’re going to bill you as an OOS student bigtime. They milk OOSers for everything.

It’s nice to want to go to a good school but you seem incredibly caught up in prestige.

No, you should not transfer twice. You should suck it up, do freaking out of this world, and apply for transfer.

I really don’t understand how attending a community college will “risk” you. But, okay.
So, the reason you want to transfer it because it’s “boring”? can you please elaborate on what “boring” means?
I hate to grill you, but in all honesty, if you want to transfer to a prestigious university, you’re going to need a good reason as to why you’re transferring out of your current uni. And “boring” is not a good reason.

My daily life is wake up and go to class. come back to dorm and do my homework.
and rest of time stay in my dorm.
I’m not in a city college and i don have car. I cannot go any where and I’m not doing anything now.
and my college’s international student is less than 1%. I have feeling that … there’s some prejudice in their eyes. like while playin sports or even in the class. because I’m almost the only asian in my college.

I’m pretty outgoing and i did have so much fun with my friends in high school.
so im pretty disappointed in my college… I want to attend college, which has larger asian population.

I’m sorry, i am kind of looking down on CC…(i’m not tryin to insult) and I’m sorry for saying risky, but there’s possibility of not being able to get into UCs after attending CC. I don’t want to regret afterwards because im doing well at my college(approximately 3.5GPA) and there’r good chances to go to colleges such as BU …

Okay, now I get it. You have good reasoning to transfer. If you keep up the good work, I’m sure you’ll get into a school like BU. However, the UC’s are a maybe since they do give priority to California Community College students.
Good luck!

I feel that I’ve written this thread myself. I’m attending one of those big state schools down in the rural south. As you, I’m without a car and I’m outside the Greek system(I rushed but you know, people down here are preeetty racist and keep the fraternities only for white south boys) , so my life basically is boring to miserable. Looking to transfer anywhere, preferably UCs so I’m looking forward to your progress.

The UC system explicitly favors transfers from CCs. For example, the transfer acceptance rate at UCLA is ~30% for CC transfers, but 10% for out of state students and 7% for 4 year schools in California. If you really want to go to a UC and can’t stand your current university, it doesn’t make sense to not attend a CC other than because you have too much pride to.

That being said, USC doesn’t show any preference to CCs, and you could definitely get into the school as a 1st year transfer.

@matark…sorry! but USC does favor CC applicants.
Got their transfer packet in the mail today. 60% of their accepted transfer applicants are from community colleges.
just saying.
AVG GPA for USC is ~3.6 GPA.
What’s your GPA now?
Your SAT score?

my midterm gpa is 3.4, my SAT is ~1940, I’m trying to transfer anywhere …
or probably go to my home country and study in the American University there.
