I'm an international student and freshman in a four-year college.
My dream schools are UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, and those schools.

I want to transfer because I don't like/hate my college. it's boring and I'm really disappointed to be here.

I want to transfer to UCs, but here's the problem.
UCs prefer/only accept junior level transfer applicants with more than 60 credits.
I want to get into UCs but I can't stand for staying this school for more than a year.

I' thinking whether I should transfer twice...(I know it would be difficult)
reset of GPA and transferable credits would be problem here...It hurts me because currently im maintaining pretty well grades in classes...
I'm thinking to transfer to BU or Northeastern as sophomore transfer, then transfer to UCs after gaining more than 60 credits. So I can get out of this terrible school earlier.

The other plan is:
wait until Spring 2014 to transfer...to UCs.
I'm going to earn 16 credits in this fall.
another 16 credits in next spring.
12-18 credits for summer.
16 credits in fall 2013.
-> it would be more than 60 credits at the end of Fall 2013.

Should I sacrifice my campus life?
Or should I transfer twice?

Well for UCLA, you could transfer to a California Community College in Los Angeles, while it is still early pay higher Out of State fees for community college but then gain California Residency to get in-state tuition for a UC. Get into a TAP program and have a better chance of getting into UCLA. They may have that program with local UCB community colleges, not to sure.

You should go CCC->UC. CCC’s have first priority and transfering OOS into the UC’s is difficult, especially UCLA and UCB. Make sure you know about the unit caps that UC’s have in place for those already having attended a 4 year.

I don’t really know the program in the CCC… even if I transfer to California Community College in Los Angeles as sophomore and joined TAP program, can i transfer to UCLA or UCB as junior? I heard usually people in community college stayed there for 2 years and transfer. But if I go there, I would only stay for a year in the program…

So … can i still transfer to UCs after sophomore year?

honestly, i don’t want to attend CC… it’s kind of risky for me. and UCs aren’t the only choice that i have. UCs are one of my top dream schools but I just want to attend those colleges that are famous worldwide… like USC, NYU, and Carnegie Mellon…

So… I want to have other options except attending CC…

I don’t know if any credits/units will carry over from your university to CCC. I don’t think any will but I am not 100% sure. It’s just how the system in California is. Community college always gets #1 priority over everyone else. There are so many transfer applicants from CCC that hardly any OOS/international students get accepted. It’s very difficult. I’m just telling you that your best shot is to go the CCC->UC route. For the private schools you listed, I don’t know what the transfer rate is but you should look up the transfer rates into those schools from other 4 years.

here is a good link: http://***********.com/stats/transfer-acceptance-rates/#.UJRwnXWHLa8

NYU has a 29% transfer rate, Carnegie Mellon 12.4%, USC 25.9%. Keep in mind that these are not all international/oos. Some might be from local CCs, some 4 years in state etc. The numbers for the UC’s for example are mostly CCC transfers.

Well, the CC route it says a minimum of 15 units TAP certified classes so could get that done in two semesters, but since you are not set on which college you want to attend you should look up information regarding OOS information for those private colleges you wish to attend and then decide which route is best for yourself.

I understood that CC route is the best way to get into UCs.
But is it the same as other colleges?
such as CC to NYU or Carnegie Mellon…

I’m currently in a four-year college with approximate GPA 3.6
but my SAT and high school GPA aren’t good enough… 1700s SAT and 3.2 high school GPA.

For private universities like NYU, USC and CM there are not a lot of transfers, or at least as many as the UCs. In that link for ex. the UC’s have anywhere from 13k-19k applicants each year, whereas the privates have 5k (NYU), 9k (USC), and Carnegie only had 676 applicants. On top of that, only 84 (CM), 1.6k (NYU), and 2.5k (USC) got accepted for each of those 3 universities. You can go CC-> private university but it’s tougher than CC->UC. Most private university students enrolled straight out of high school.

Only the private universities will look at your SAT and high school GPA and they will only factor it into the admissions decision if you are transferring less than 60 semester units (as a junior). At least that is what USC told me. If you have more than 60 transferable semester units then it is not factored into the decision. I think this is the same for NYU and CM but i’m not 100% sure.

You can probably go from your 4 year to USC/NYU/CM if you have all the pre-reqs done, high gpa, good extra curriculars, volunteer work, or work experience. It’s not impossible but its difficult.
