Transfer Planning Computer Science Top Tier

Hi I will be attending iowa state university this fall 2011. i am very disappointed in myself for going to a school that is not top tier. I was unable to get into them; my high school stats are pretty average but most of my classes are AP. My gpa is around 3.0 (terrible) because i moved to USA right before my freshman year of high school and i wasn't even good at speaking english and I had to work hard and to improve my grades. I struggled a lot. I took around 10 AP classes in high school and also took the Ap exams. I have really high grades in math but i suck at english and reading(Which i'm improving over the summer). I am planning on transferring to a top tier school for computer science which is my major after my freshman year.

The Schools that interest me are
UIUC, Cornell, UC Berkley, and other best computer science schools

Can someone tell me what can i do in my first year in college to get into those schools?
I know i would have to work hard in college to pull a high gpa and i hope for a perfect or near perfect gpa and I WILL WORK HARD TO GET IT. I also have started to volunteer in a local home shelter place and I'm also the founder and the only employee of a mobile application company, in which i develop applications for portable devices like iphone and ipad. I think having that would show colleges my interest in computer science field. I'm also a minority (Asian) i don't know if that would increase my chances or make it almost impossible due to high competition.

So anyway do you guys have any suggestions on the things i should do to improve my chances of making it to a top school. I took ACT and got 26 (Very bad english and reading scores but really high math and science) I also took the Toefl exam since english is not my first language. I learned that you don't need any test scores for transferring i plan on not sending them. My top choice would be cornell, carnegie mellon, upenn
I did not apply to any of these schools for fall 2011 because i know i wouldn't stand a chance. i go denied by schools like purdue and uw madison .You may notice Purdue WAS my top choices because my user name is Purduedream since they denied me i was very disappointed; first time in my life i felt completely worthless. Now as i plan to transfer next year I'm not even considering Purdue.

I'm planning on transferring in fall 2012 i know its too early but i want some advice on things i should do to improve my chances on getting accepted to a top tier school during my first year in college. I wil be working hard to achieve it

Any input is appreciated
Thanks for reading

You need to stop dreaming and be practical. It’s time to go to college in the fall, enjoy your school, work hard, participate in ECs, and then consider transferring.

When you apply for a soph transfer, you will have 1 sem of college work, so decisions will weigh substantially on your HS record (gpa & course rigor) and test scores. A 26 ACT and sub 3.0 will not get you into a top CS school after 1 year.

If you are an OOS resident for a public university, transfer admissions is even harder. Asians are not considered underrepresented minorities for college admissions and particularly not in CS.

I’m not sure where you heard that you don’t have to send tests scores, here are websites for the first couple of the schools you listed that I looked up:

[Penn Admissions: Transfer Eligibility and Requirements](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/applying/eligibility.php)

[Admission > Transfer Applicants](<a href=“Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University”>Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University)

You’re not worthless, but you do need a reality check and then move on to reasonable goals that are every bit as worthwhile as your current dreams.

you should try your hardest, go for 4.0, and take classes that are similar in nature to the ones you would be taking at the schools you want to transfer to, try to cover your bases at realistic schools, don’t write off purdue or any others you already applied to when you transfer new college will give you degree without any difference indicating transfer, they want you to have knowledge proving equivalent to decent grades in their curriculum, depending on how easy or hard iowa classes are you may really have to load schedule apply after one year but anticipate applying to places again in sophomore to be a junior transfer, and don’t depend on getting into the places you mentioned. also, get involved in internships/research/computer university projects if at all possible, always helps, if I were you I would even try to talk to admissions directly of dream school ask what can do, or at least web site
