I want to transfer fall 2012 so do all of the transfer pre-reqs have to be completed before fall of 2012 or spring of 2012. Can I take 1 pre-req during the summer of 2012? CALC 2

What are my chances of acceptance?

I do not believe you can complete it during the summer. I tried looking but couldn’t find anything. I do know you can complete the course in the Spring though.

I’ll try to explain.

You do have to complete all the prerequisites eventually. However it is in your best interest to try to completete them all before the Spring. For example: (This is a 2 year transferee.)

First year at your Institution:

Semester 1:

Semester 2:

Second Year at your Institution

Semester 3:

Then you would send your application in. This is the best scenario since the admission officers are not depending/wondering how you will do on the prerequisites because you have already completed them all.

Semester 4:

However, you might be able to complete the classes in that time order or whatever the reason so it might look like this instead:

Semester 3:

Send your application in with the your Spring Courses. This is showing planned completion.

Semester 4:

This can also work however now you’re leaving doubt in the officer’s mind because they do not have the whole picture. I’m not saying this is not acceptable but the first scenario is the best one out of the 2. Of course they can accept you but if you do not complete the planned courses then your admission would most likely be rescinded.

wow thanks so much, for the detailed reply. But above it states that I should have a significant number of courses completed. So if I am just missing two (calc 1 and calc 2) but I plan to taking them by the time of the transfer, it will be ok? or is it a long shot since I will be missing two classes at the time of the application?

This is something I’d like to know also, as I am just now taking Calc 1 (second year at CC), because I had to take the prereqs for it.

If you don’t have required prereqs done by the spring before you transfer, you likely won’t get in to that major. You’ll have to do it in the summer, and then petition for a major change when you get to UC in the fall. Some will let you change your major when you enroll in that last class if you take it with the UC you’ll be attending. But they won’t just take your word for it that you’ll pass, and let you float into the major before seeing you passed.

Oh, okay. Because I have to take Math 1A-1B, and I should have that done by Winter.

Thanks.

so if I were to do that, is it hard to change my major after passing?

It’s usually not too hard, the main issue is that you may in effect miss a quarter, if they don’t admit you into your major until after people start signing up for fall quarter classes. But if it’s your only option for getting into your major of choice, you should contact an admissions counselor at said school at start crackin at a plan full steam!

I’m looking at UCLA, UCI, and UCSD. How about if I wanted to transfer with an undeclared major and then change to business or economics once I get to the school in the fall?

bump to the top!

you cant transfer as undeclared…

missing 2-3 pre-reqs is not a big prob…

oh great, I’ll be missing 1 pre-req which will be completed by the time of transfer any ways so the colleges will see it as a future class to be completed by the time of transfer.

@Collegeboy10

Just make sure you show planned completion. Other than that you should be fine.

alright thanks so much!
