Transfer process explained

Can anyone tell me how the whole transferring process works. I, most likely, will be attending Cornell Universtiy and I am interested in transferring to Stanford University. How many years do I have to spend in Cornell before I can transfer? What should I do in order to have greater probabilities to get accepted? Can I transfer after the first year?

I would wait at least a year before transferring. (The more [good] grades, the better.) However, some colleges prefer if you finish two years of school work and then transfer. But it's up to you.

To have a better chance at getting accepted is simple: Good grades (3.5 GPA, at least); join clubs, sports teams, do some community service, etc;

You might want to contact Stanford and ask them what the requirements are for transferring. You can also ask what classes you should take at Cornell (to make sure the credits transfer).

Good Luck!!

Go to Stanford's web site which has quite a bit of information on transferring. Do note, however, that the admit rate for Stanford transfers hovers around 5%. Much of what you'll see on their website relates to Junior year transfers - California has a very strong community college system, with the standouts from those schools targetting transfer to the UC system, Stanford and other California schools.

You can apply to transfer for your sophomore year, which means you will need to complete the transfer app by 3/1 or 3/15 of your freshman year. You'll want at least 3.5 GPA to enhance your chances, good professor recs - it's all spelled out on the website.

Be careful, cause some colleges prefer 2nd year transfers over 3rd year.

Yes, go to Stanford's website and see if there's a transfer student profile. That will tell you if they prefer 2nd yr or 3rd year transfers. If not, call them and ask.

IMO, the longer you are at a school the better the experience.

Good luck!
